confirmed. I watch TV less than 20 hours in the last 6 years.
I like watching sports too, not the kind of dumb ones that 22 people chase after a tiny ball.
>>
>>8624455
Do they actually watch them recreationally though? I have interest in the NFL from a stats point of view and I understand the intricacies of the positions and strategy from playing football growing up but I actually find sitting down and watching 3 hours of it to be painful.
>>
>>8624475
yes, they enjoy observing and learning about the framework regarding skills that individual players have and how they play into the bigger picture, there's enjoyment in the memorization and prediction aspects- just like some people enjoy doing math for hours on end while other people can't stand to look at math problems. Watch moneyball. Also I'm sure a lot of people watch it recreationaly because theyre raised in households where sports are deeply valued- you spend time with your senpai being passionate and cheering on your team and that leaves a lasting impression.
>>
>>8623370
because its a waste of brain space and time. There are only so many hours in the day and sports don't make the cut as one of the things worth giving a shit about.

My lack of giving a shit about sports does cause me to need to be more creative for small talk subjects since pretty much everyone auto defaults to filling empty conversation space with meaningless sports gibberish.

I don't believe intelligent people don't watch sports.

Intelligent people likely don't care to get invested in something that is horribly boring to begin with because of societal expectations.

I highly doubt that there's a human being out there that saw some dudes throwing a football around on TV and thought "WOW, HOW EXCITING"

I don't believe there's anyone out there that is really above the enjoyment of football even though I don't watch it myself.
>>

When I want to exercise my body, I do manual labor that creates something instead of hitting the gym where my hard work is pissed away twice. Once by the fact I'm not doing anything while in the gym and again by the fact I had to work to make the money to spend on the gym. The latter drains your resources directly while the former builds lasting things.

My hypothesis is sports are too primitive for the intelligent. Not much brain stimulation is in sports if you are informed about space/time and human psychology/behavior. It could seem rather perpetual.

I find sports to be fun when I'm with friends and family. Doesn't matter the sport, it's just a deep human interaction that sits well with me.

I agree that it strongly implies it but doesn't mean it's meant that way.

That's the appeal for me though. I don't watch TV etc. but watching hockey or football is really exciting for me. Every game is like a little war and both teams fight to win.
Not everything I have to do has to be on a high intellectual level, I really enjoy lifting too and would recommend it to everyone
>>
>>8625167

at least here I get to articulate my opinions and understanding of complex (usually) subjects and engage with other individuals on topics I find interesting.

Beats passive viewing of sports contests or pointless discussion of the same.
>>
They're boring as hell to watch on TV and there are about a million commercials so the games take forever. I guess watching with other people makes it a little better, but still extremely boring. Especially football.

I seriously don't understand how football is exciting to anyone - hardly anybody actually knows more than two or three of the positions or half the rules and there's about ten minutes play for every hour of commercials. Hardly anyone even plays real football in America compared to all the fatfucks who watch it all weekend.

Plenty of intelligent people do. Especially more subtle and complicated sports. Usually it's because that's what they grew up with, it's a part of their culture and personality. Though often nerdy kinds of people don't have time or a pushed away from sports. Some might not see a point. Personally my country is really into sports, even more than playing it they're into watching it. I never watch sports, it's too boring and I can never ascribe to the vibe of supporting a team and getting into it in that way, or into anything in that way. However I like playing them as it's infinitely more engaging and enjoyable.

The only smart person I know who watches sports is my girlfriend's Dad who's a doctor.

He's also the most normie person on earth, it seems like he wants nothing more than to surround himself with mundanity to spite his intelligence. Being a genius is actually a very isolating thing so many exceptionally intelligent people will put a lot of effort in "dumbing themselves down" for the sake of fitting in.

so after the tiring Battle of Marathon the messenger Pheidippides runs all the way back to Athenai (which was 42 km away from Marathon) to proclaim victory.
After he did so he collapsed out of depletion an died on the spot.
The elders looked him into the eyes and saw how life left the body for good.
They did so tacitly until one of the elders spoke up and said: "You know what, lads? Let's make a sport out of this!"
>>
>>8623370
Intelligent people do watch sports, but it seems as though fewer do than less intelligent people because there are far more people of average intelligence in this world. Thus, there will be more people of average intelligence watching sports.

Another interesting thing to observe is how many people watch sports but are in terrible shape and don't even play sports. I exercise and like playing sports with friends, but don't watch games or follow any teams religiously. There isn't enough interaction when it comes to watching sports. So if we assume there is a specific reason for why intelligent people don't watch sports, it could be that they crave some sort of interaction that makes them think, rather than being an observer.
>>
>>8623370
Intelligent people aren't wise and they think they need to uphold Smart Cred by eliminating all thoughts relating to physical activity from their lives, whether its watching sports or just getting basic exercise to maintain health

Or alternatively they have better shit to do
>>
>>8623675
>>8623628
>>8623823

The original question was:
"Why don't intelligent people watch sports?"
Which could be interpreted to imply one of the following:
1."There are multiple persons (at least 2) who are intelligent and do not watch sports"
2."All people who are intelligent do not watch sports.
3."Intelligent people are more likely to not watch sports."

The problem is the natural language, which leaves room for interpretation.
