Most crypto books I come across even "beginner" ones are too advanced for me. I need one that assumes less mathematical knowledge and is self-contained. Any recommendations?

Introduction to Modern Cryptography by Katz and Lindell
You could use it to teach high schoolers.
It's all pointless unless you know modern polynomial factorization techniques. Never mind running before you can walk you're trying to walk before coming out of the womb.

He assumes Probability theory knowledge. High schoolers without probability would get lost in about chapter 2. Wouldn't recommend that book to OP.
