it was a critique on advance math, Caroll didn't like imaginary numbers, he thought they were insane
Pretty sure it was about madness not drugs

>he thought they were insane
How can complex numbers be insane if they aren't people?
>not reading Euclid and His Modern Rivals
Alice in wonderland a shit

>an incestuous pedophile calling anything insane

I thought people were aware that Alice was just political satire and math jokes.

It's not an allegory or a metaphor, he made it up on the fly to impress his crushfu (pic related).

>crushfu
Stop using your retarded weeb buzzwords to real life. That's just embarrassing. Use /a/ for that.
Caroll was a hack anyway.
Contributed nothing significant to math. Probably the black science guy of his time.

And?
Makes you think. In the past imaginary numbers were really bewildering, people would say they made no sense, that it was too hard. Now we don't really have strong feelings about them, and any high-schooler can learn about them and their properties without significant effort.
Today we struggle with stuff like quantum mechanics and think it doesn't make sense, it's too weird, etc. In the future people will probably think it makes a lot of sense.
