Your question sounds dumb. b8ing much?
Tell me, why do you care? Why are you asking?
If your mind is like a stone, then there is no point trying to answer your questions.

read your post a couple of times, and realize how completely fucking useless and annoying it is

Research Universities. Private Universitys that basically pay their students to attend when they make their money off of "research"

That is not how it works at all. I am afraid you have been severely misinformed.
Thanks for being polite though.
However, I am not going to enter a conversation like this, when I can clearly see there are at least 2-3 Republican trolls that hate everything to do with science and academia floating around on /sci/.
If you are legitimately interested in learning about "research", I recommend avoid news outlets and informal online forums.
Rather, books, sometimes online encyclopedias, university websites, specialized websites like Google Scholar, etc. will be much more informative.
Best of luck.

research is just >>8603147. why pay someone to do this? basic science (science without a practical purpose) is the root of the tree, without it there's nothing else. and applied science and engineering yields nice applications quickly. this is really the purpose of anyone who likes science and wants to go into academia
