What are your thoughts on Westpoint? Not the military aspect, but the learning aspect and the career possibilities that it has. I'm curious to see what everyone thinks.

West Point is Army btw. The Naval Academy is Marines/Navy.
>>

Wrong branch of service you dumb-fuck. You sure ain't getting into West Point, probably the best military academy in the world, with a brain that shriveled.

Obviously you would want to look around for ex WP grads and see where they are now to judge the school.

Their compsci courses is like a degree in software exploitation, malware reverse engineering, breaking poor crypto engineering, they always win the various "cyber team" challenges.

so, the US army corps of engineers is a mostly civilian organization. they are in charge of a bunch infrastructure and environmental regulation as well as aiding our allies infrastructure abroad (only a handful of european countries have good engineers and they are stingy as fuck with them).

if you like civil engineering and don't plan on making the military a career, i'd say go for it. having been in the military and having gone to a pure engineering school i can say that the experiences compliment each other. disciplined study times of rigorous material, good exercise, few distractions. as long as you don't mind missing out on the typical "college experience" it would objectively be good for your academic and professional career.

if you are doing something non-stem, ehh... you better just sign up for the whole 20 years.

Good luck getting into West Point it's a long and arduous process that starts junior year of high school, or even earlier and you have to be both top physical condition and a top student. Most applicants have a letter of recommendation from a Senator or Member of Congress or show "outstanding character".

It's your typical elite military school so everything will focus on security/war strategy http://www.csoonline.com/article/3090090/leadership-management/it-internship-brings-women-from-west-point-to-silicon-valley.html

I imagine your career possibilities would be CIA/NSA/military for the most part or running some "cyber incident response center" it's all geared towards leadership you wouldn't be a code monkey you'd be running departments

i got a job offer to this place. 72k$ to be a glorified groundskeeper. should i do it? is upstate new york comfy?
>>

>have to be both top physical condition
Is this really true? In the the year above me in highschool there was this really short chubby girl that got into west point who looked nothing like what I'd describe as "top physical condition"

>Most applicants have a letter of recommendation from a Senator or Member of Congress or show "outstanding character".
This isn't that hard if either of your parents donated to a candidate. My best friend got a recommendation from Pat Toomey to go to the Merchant Marine school (even though his parents convinced him to just go to the state college).

>i got a job offer to this place. 72k$ to be a glorified groundskeeper. should i do it? is upstate new york comfy?
Parts of upstate New York are very comfy (though other parts are rather depressing). If I got that offer I would immediatly drop out of college. How did you get it btw?

>How did you get it btw?
i don't really know. USAJobs is fucked up in where your resume and stuff gets sent to. pretty sure i didn't even apply.

i'm assuming veterans preference, because i went to a pretty shitty state school with a really mediocre GPA.

Did you finish college? I'm going to a stateschool with a decent reputation but I fucking hate it here and was thinking of dropping out and joining the military or moving to Alaska or somewhere where its easy to get a job and cheap to live, like Alaska. Should I try to hold out, since my dad's paying for it all? I'm only on my 2nd semester btw. But again I'd like to reiterate I really fucking hate college.

Btw its been measured that the income where people are happiest is 75k so if you're not really doing anything better then yeah I think taking the groundskeeping position would be great. I'd personally take it in a heart beat if it were available to me desu.
>>
>>8589577
>Did you finish college?
yeah. i joined the army and was basically stationed in my home town. did online college courses while i worked in a supply room for 4 years. went across the street to stateschool and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree. wopping 3.05 GPA.

been shotgunning my resume into the federal system and now i'm getting phone calls from dudes in new york and italy and shit. kinda freaks me out a little bit.
>>
>>8589577
>>8589588
but to answer your question, finish college. you don't want this prole life, trust me.
>>
>>8589588
Shit you're doing pretty good for yourself. If you don't mind me asking what was the state college?

Sorry if I turned this into a blog its just idk wtf I'm gonna do. Do you think I should join the military?
>>
>>8589596
Being working class and doing jobs that are actually real and meaningful sounds comfy as fuck though. I mean my dream is just to be self sufficient and be able to watch anime when I get home from work. I don't have much ambition past that.

Idaho State

>Do you think I should join the military?

I don't know. sure. don't get blown up. look man, i'm only 24. i lived in the same place being poor my whole life and the only real travel i've done was to go to basic. for most of the people i met it was just a job. a job where you had to have a stupid haircut and run PT and do other semi-retarded things. it was okay money. i didn't even intend on using my GI bill to get an engineering degree. i mainly did it because the living stipend really helped my income.
