Why are most physics books dull and austere ?
>>8543565
Because your too stupid to see the beauty of the underlying structures.
>>8543565
Because the authora know (1) there's alot alot of material (2) you're here because you want to learn the material and they can skip the bullshit.

Cause the books are written by scientists who spent their lives breathing and eating their field. This often makes them consider most things a student needs to understand stuff, self-evident. This way the books are written in an incoherent way for newbies but the writers and the reviewers find them perfectly fine

because physics is dull and austere? wtf would you think physics is sexy?

p-poor octopus
if he hits a wall with the combined momentum of the lead puck and himself at 35 m/s, there is no way he's gonna make it ;_;
>>8544384
10.6 m/s
>>8543565
Physics is generally just a little more superficial than math but not enough to lend it some obvious extravagance. At least not without deep understanding.

But what if the octopus locks his suction cups against the ice?
>Could explain a concept very simply in a sentence
>Take multiple pages to do so instead, confusing the reader in the process
>Book is large as fuck as a result
>s-see guys, the book is worth it! Look at big it is!
It's the equivalent of fluffing out highschool papers that have page requirements
>>8544783
>Look at big it is!
Look at how big it is. I need sleep

Then it becomes essentially popsci. The problem with a "simple" explanation is that it ignores some subtle yet important details, which is all well and good if you're trying to explain to a layman. But a textbook is supposed to, you know, actually teach you everything about a topic.
The fact is that physics is not easy to learn. Anybody trying to give you a "physics for dummies" explanation as a serious encompassing explanation is the educational equivalent of a "lose weight fast" scam.

I thought /sci/ was supposed to be smart
>read a text on geometric quantization
>full of beautiful structures and derivations
>completely fucking useless
>read a text on conformal field theory
>full of powerful models that generalize most spin-on-a-lattice systems with extreme accuracy and experimental confirmation
>falls asleep reading it
