How does an object literally stop people from thinking, how did we reach a time where people would rather sit on a couch, watch people act out the same shitty scenario's, with a few small differences, over and over again, instead of learning something new, or at least using their brain cells. During the ad-break, they go on Facebook or whatever is the newest hype in that category of bullshit. I just went to visit my parents, hadn't seen them in 3 months, and guess what? We caught up a bit and all that usual stuff, but after 10 minutes the television was turned on and it was dead silent. I took out my phone, used it's IR blaster to mute the television and all hell broke loose, everyone went berserk trying to figure out what happened, they did realise the remote was next to the television, everyone was pushing and pulling at whatever they could get their hands on trying to find the fucking remote. I was shocked, when they realised the remote was next to the television, everyone turned to me, at that moment I knew I fucked up, they basically kicked me out with their words. I just got up and said fuck this I'm out you guys have probably not used your brains once in the last 3 months. Before I left, I cut the cable downstairs, fucking mongoloids will probably burn down the house before they realise why the television isn't working. Fucking hell, fuck television.
Pic is random btw, the filename isn't supposed to be some /x/ shit

The trick of television is pacifying you. It doesn't obey you, its content is 99% meaningless, it has no coherence with itself, it is irresponsible, and it will make you feel great for nothing. When you come back to real life, you feel scared, so you go back to television.
>>
>>8537051
I guess you're right, it's sad to see how much it's holding us back as a specie, if everyone would substitute watching television with something useful, we'd end climate change, war, hunger and poverty all across the globe in 2 years tops.
>>
>>8537038
>how did we reach a time where people would rather sit on a couch etc.

Dude it's human nature. What's remarkable is that anyone *wouldn't* want to do that if given the choice.
>>
>>8537038
There is no problem in watching television if you have enough critical thinking, just like there is no problem watching, having, porn if you don't fap.
>>
>>8537068
I don't, seriously I'd rather research random shit or have intellectual conversations filled with banter and 16-year old jokes on 4chan, than spend my life in front of the television.
>>
>>8537081
Believe me, I'm pretty sure if you watch television 4 hours a day, you'll lose the ability to even think at all after a month.
>>
>>8537038
tip your fedora harder tripfaggot
>>
>>8537095
Sorry I don't wear one, but see this is the type of shit that keeps me here, even though you can't see the smile on my face right now, this is actually a lot more fun than watching television, we're having a conversation and then someone pops up and says some shit to someone to change the topic to something meaningless, or start a digital fight.
>>
>>8537094
What? No, I don't fucking believe you, look I talked about critical thinking, and you give this "believe me" crap?
>>
>>8537051

Nigga get your andrenal glands checked.
>>
>>8537103
I was just testing if you actually watch television enough that your brain has died
>>

Implying I wacth mindless bs. I wacth nature and documentaries and about learning new stuff. Never everyone watches cable TV ya faggot.

How does a website literally stop people from thinking, how did we reach a time where people would rather sit on a chair, watch people post out the same shitty scenario's, with a few small differences, over and over again, instead of learning something new, or at least using their brain cells.
>>
>>8537128
You're not even remotely clever posting that. Most conversations on online forums are vastly different from one-another, often offering insight in one form or another.

Yeah, your comparison is bunk.
>>
>>8537127
That's actually good
>>8537128
We do actually use our brain cells here

If anything, your garbage post proves exactly what you're trying to convey.

What does a supreme gentleman such as yourself do for a living? You must be a brilliant neuroscientist or computer programmer with all the free time you have from not vegetating in front of a tv.

>>
>>8537038
I haven't had a television in years at this point. You just replace it with shitposting, really.

Change comes from within. The millions that stare at a TV would stare at a computer screen if TV was gone. You must develop a desire for learning and fulfillment in individuals to change their affinity for idle pacification.
>>
>>8537094
I watch television more than 4 hours a day, yet I just passed all my courses.

Stop being a fucking bitch. Television is entertainment just like anything else humanity has made. Stop being no fun.
>>
>>8537134
Did you ever consider that people sitting around using their brains invented the TV?
Have you ever looked into the Red Queen theory of evolution?
It is possible the faster you try to solve problems, save earth, save people from themselves, the faster you will fail?
With all that stored energy in fossil fuels a moderate population could have lived in absolute luxury for thousands and thousands of years, instead much was squandered on war machines, increases in "productivity" and now we are in a race to stop their use?

You need to relax, maybe turn on the TV, put your feet up son. Take it easy on the famalam. This is the golden age of TV, a clever one can rid it of all its infections like commercials, have their pick of show and tune it to their own wavelength. It's escapism sure, a synthetic drug but who is to say worse than heroin or cocaine? The monkey will always seek to be drugged.
>>
>>8537038
I honestly have no idea what goes on in the heads of people who watch that Kardashian's bullshit and sitcoms.

Be me:
>No television
>No facebook, twitter, etc.

Not using these websites and TV has saved me lots of money and has allowed me to learn and look into different subjects.

How do magazines literally stop people thinking, how did we reach a time when people would rather sit around the fire place in silence reading their own magazines instead of engaging in wholesome conversation as once they did.

I did it because they were swearing and yelling at me because they didn't get to hear what Lisa (or whatever the fuck her name is) said for 10 seconds. I'm pretty sure they'd have choked me if I didn't leave, and I wanted to leave a mark, I wanted to show them how powerless they are.

The point is more about this forum specifically rather than others. 4chan has never really been a forum in the traditional sense; the nature of imageboards is very different and always will be. The high turnover ensured by the lack of thread persistence encourages popular in-jokes and happenings which garner several replies rather than good posts which require time and though to address. Even the best conversations on /sci/ tend to be dominated by patterns of in-jokes and shitposting, and the closest you get to dialogue is eight-or-so post chains baiting each other which end in more shitposting and in-jokes. Many of the reality-distortion effects also apply, perhaps to a greater degree on the more political/contentious boards. You can explain a one-off-point, much like I am, but the high rate of turnover and general posting culture ensures that whatever is conveyed will almost certainly be forgotten. It's just not meant to do that.

What if I told you your preferences are no more meaningful than you television-watching family.
Feeling superior about your preferences and the way you spend spare time shows immaturity.
You profess your love for deep thought while at the same time professing love for inane and meaningless conversations, which are just as pointless as "television"

kys faggot

frank zappa's retarded there. he probably would've recanted if he saw kids getting taught from history books with slaves on the cover.
>>
I was pretty against tv for my kids but theres this show on Nick Jr that teaches them about STEM stuff. Honestly when I was 3 I wish I had a show that taught me about momentum, potential energy, angular momentum, trajectories, etc

Its actually an incredible show but outside that hes not that interested in TV. The only other stuff he watches is SpaceX launched with me and videos of planes flying around and thats mostly because I'm air force

>How does an object literally stop people from thinking
Have you ever just stared blankly at a fire? Same thing happens with TV

It's just a bright object with flickering lights that mesmerizes people. Humans are attracted for such things because it usually means fire or a body of water, which we would need to survive.

I wonder if TV would have the same mesmerizing effect if it wasn't back lit. Make a TV that generates no light. It would require a bright light be shown onto it for you to see, but I suspect the mesmerizing effect would vanish with such a TV set up.

wtf i hate tv now

It's part of the upcoming cull, stay away from tv and other lies that feed you numbing addiction
>>
>>8537038
idiot.

first you are like 10 years too late, the era of television is OVER.

second it's non-interactiveness and lack of individual responsiveness which caused the need for a demographically generalized broadcasting schedule at the cost of being able to communicate valuable and important information all of the time.

your family sounds pretty retarded, sorry OP.
