I have an option to take a module in game theory next year; is it worth taking or is it just a load of hand-wavey nonsense for brainlets?
So far I've much preferred all of the more rigorous mathematical courses I've taken, so is this something I want to avoid?
Which kind of game theory?
if you're going into economics then it might be worth it

Basic intro course by the looks
I'd do it, but that is just because I think it is interesting. Also game theory for political science is cool too.

If the credits go towards accreditation then sure. Otherwise waste of time. Easy A, though.

Sure, if you like starting world wars
If you plan on pursuing a research career, it's a good idea to familiarise yourself with games because there are a lot of low hanging fruit in the area. If you're thinking about a real job, don't waste your time.

Games, i.e. any goal based, competitive intetaction..

>You should familiarise yourself with fields.
>Lol, what the hell do you need to play football for?
It's an introductory game theory course. Don't expect it to be rigorous at all; that doesn't happen till you become a grad student. Have to be quite well versed in maths to read the more advanced papers out there.
Fun topic, though, and definitely useful if you're interested in (behavioural) econ.

Basic is right, it reminds me of a linear algebra course for non-math majors.
As the others have said, it's an easy course and you can expect the final exam to be 99% elementary calculations.
But if you actually want to [math]learn[/math] game theory, you'll probably want something like the following set of lecture notes

along with pic related as a reference text.
