Yes, it does.
Yesterday I memorized 168 digits in 20 min making 14 errors.
I was fucked up and barely functional so that's really good.
Why bother memorizing digits though?

It's something you're born with or without. You can probably learn advanced memorization techniques but I doubt anything else will help your memory.
