Why do all calculus professors have such an enormous hard-on for arctan?
>>8511379
It's got a pretty derivative.
According to my calc 2 professor, it's because all of the other calc professors have an enormous hardon for it. In his words, "you're going to be seeing it a lot, so it's best to get comfortable with it now".
Because its really useful and yoy use it a lot , like this guy says >>8511395

I think the real question here is why do all calculus professors have enormous hard-ons? What's their secret?
It's used a lot in quantum.
It represents heat transfer and stuff like that.

I don't even take calculus and I get this joke. well done
>Calculus
Isn't that, like, a high-school subject?
>>8511379
Because its a trig function that is produced by integrating a rational function. When integrating rational functions, logarithms and arctan show up a lot.

Because it provides a convenient way to integrate rational functions without having to confuse the students with the complex logarithm.
