The scope of the word gender defines the physical differences between two biological sexes of humans.

Anything else is either a personality trait or psychological difference, that doesn't fall under the scope of gender.

Like usb plug and socket. Even if someone put host software on a device with plug, doesn't change the fact it has a plug. It need's either a socket whose device has compatible software or an adapter.. but it's still a plug. There might even be usb chargers, that provide only power, OTG devices that can function both ways, but that doesn't change their ability to make a physical connection.

Sex is a physical thing in the DNA. but gender is a construct of the mind. (both the personal/internal mind and the societal/hive mind) As such, you can construct as many genders as you desire, theoretically anyway.

When how someone feels inside doesn't match with any of per-defined definitions of gender they are forced to redefine one of the previous definitions of gender. When society puts pressure on people to STOP redefining gender, then they are forced to make up an entirely new one. pic related.

This entire post however ignores one fact, even if gender is in the mind, there is also the mind/body component to consider. This is something science is just beginning to understand and western society ignores completely. It shouldn't be ignored. Who knows, maybe simply thinking yourself an opposite gender can cause slight physical or hormonal changes that make you physically a mixed gender, hormonally mixed at least.
