Learn to string sentences together properly before you decide to talk down on an entire field of study.

And OP, there is a difference between those who deal with the psyche, and those that deal with the physical brain.

theres actually not too much difference in terms of the treatment options given. the only difference really is diagnostics of things like brain injury and the tests used but with things like dementia or something like that, the line blurs more. Infact, for a while people have been questioning the division of neurology and psychiatry which originally was an almost arbitrary division in the early twentieth century when the link of cognition/psychology and the brain wasn't as mature and psychoanalysis was becoming a dominant force. I do see what you mean though, they are still different and neurologists won't be trained in the same way with DSM or certain therapy types and whatever but i mean conceptually they are still blurred; what a neurological disorder is compared to a psychiatric one. They should both be called neuropsychiatric.

Well, they still have to go through med school and do their rotations like any other MD. A psychiatrist working in the front lines (like one working in an emergency room) also needs to be able to rule out physical diseases and conditions before they declare someone's behavior as pathological. They also need to understand and interpret lab results too. By the way, a neurologist is going to tell you to see a psychiatrist before they even touch you if they don't suspect that you have any sort of acute brain trauma or disease.

I think neurologists who work with mental illness are those seen in labs and clinical trials, not necessarily patients who need immediate treatment. The line between neurology and psychiatry will get thinner and thinner as we understand more about pathology and how it relates biologically but we'll always need people who are specifically trained to work with those who are, quite frankly, impossible to deal with.

Just my two cents as somebody who is in neither fields. I think psychiatrists get a lot of flank when it seems to me that their work can be invaluable and important.

This pretty much. Its a neurologists job to fix your brain physically, for the most part. Psychiatrists deal with less physical and more emotional and chemical problems. Im sure a neurologist would be fairly competent at treating non-physiological problems but specialists exist so one person doesnt have to literally be an expert in everything.
