Learning the theory and apply it. I've seen people repeating Programming courses because they thought memorizing lines of codes or chapters is the way to do. You learn the theory (Polymorphism f.e.) and sit in evening trying to digest it and code. Plus, a lot of good youtube (thenewboston on youtube) out there. For projects, look up '/g/ programming projects for n00bs' chart and try to program most of it with Java

I have two questions for you:
1. Do you want to pass the course (which is in java)

2. You want to learn programming.

I guess you want both, but according to me it looks like nr 1 is priority number 1.
