tfw your only mistake was on the easiest question
>tell professor I have a tendency to make stupid mistakes on tests during office hours
>"well I grade intelligent mistakes all the same"
why are professors so mean?

I doubt they're even allowed to give points if what's written on the sheet is objectively wrong. I also lose about 5 to 10 points per exam for retarded mistakes but I never got any compensation for it from a professor, no matter how friendly he was
>professor takes off points for not using words like "then" or "so" in a proof
>question 1
>definition question
>give definition of A
>can remember definition of A and (not A)
>cant remember which is which
>literally the same definition for A and (not A) apart from a couple of quantifiers and/or inequalities switched
>write down the wrong definition
>remember which one was right when walking out of the exam
>0 marks for question 1
every time

Happens to me with alarming frequency.
But I kinda deserve to lose points when it happens because I should have taken my time and made sure I got it right, because even the simple details can be important.

I think it depends on how serious the mistake is. Some t.a.s mark you down for whatever retarded shit they can come up with because they want to seem strict and powerful. Just like a janitor here teebeeaich.

Literally just did this on a signals test. Wrote my coefficients were j and -j, but sketched the opposite. Compounded through to my signal being flipped. Should've prolly been a red flag when my sinc was upside down, but I thought the prof was just being cheeky
