This man's chromosomes were destroyed by radiation. That means his body did not have a blue print anymore, he was only a piece of meat at micro second the radiation hit him. Given the two weeks before his skin started to fall off, how is a human being still able to communicate, eat, breath, and sleep when the body doesn't even know what to do??? If his body didn't know what was what, does that mean that he didn't feel pain because the pain signals didn't know what to do??

He suffered, because God is starting to punish jjokbaris for what they did to Koreans in WW2.

Your body doesent depend on your DNA for basic activities. Only individual cells use it for reproduction. Once the cells reach the end of their lifetimes and try to reproduce, they can't since the genetic material is too damaged. This means that instead of successfully reproducing the cells just die.

As you can imagine, this is what produces the delay in radiation poisoning.

what a horrbile death that must've been

fuck fission, go fusion

are there any cells that never need replacing that could live on forever?

I remember they use to say braincells can never be replaced, ie they live forever, which isn't true. But if it were true, (maybe in some science fiction universe) and you had a means of keeping the brain alive and functioning in a jar, then you could survive any amount of radiation exposure.

One more question, once human DNA is destroyed by radiation, could you put new DNA in there with viral therapy? So long as there's no lingering sources of radiation which continue to destroy your DNA, could viral therapy completely replace all your DNA cure for radiation sickness?

Cancer cells can live forever
Stem and embryonic cells MIGHT live forever

>>8479735
Yes it does. Where do you think all your proteins come from?

>>8479620
Proteins can persist for a fair while, so I assume they were still running normally. Plus not all of his cells would have been destroyed, many of them were likely still producing normal, or close to normal, gene product

Dna is used to produce proteins. Once a protein is used, it needs to be replaced. I don't think you could live a long time without chromosomes in you cells. Anything, even moving you muscles would become harder and harder as you body produces less and less ATP. If he lived more than one day, he did not lose all his chromosomes in all of his cells

>Once a protein is used, it needs to be replaced.

Not true of all enzymes and certainly not most.

It wouldn't make sense to spend a lot of energy to make a disposable enzyme. That kind of logic is reserved for communities restricted to very narrow survival horizons (see modern humanity)

Most evolved cellular enzymatic activity is highly conserved. That is, there is extensive recycling going on all the time. Not just that- but storage as well. Efficient cells don't waste resources.

Organs can function without any information from the brain etc. They'll do their own thing, albeit even when their structure is messed up they'll still try to function.
