if the dryer got too hot your clothes would catch on fire in some situations. A slow, constant moderate heat is safer.

I dry everything on low/ delicate or just air.
Literally everything shrinks otherwise for me.
I stopped putting pants in the dryer altogether and just hang them to dry now.
