I have a few gems I got years ago at an estate sale and I need help identifying a few. I don't know what other board to go to.

identifying gems just by looking at it is impossible for most gems. there are devices for this task.

Real life exists too.
Get them to a jewellery shop or two.
Also, "gem-ology"? Really? Did you make this """joke""" in purpose?

That first one is really beautiful OP. Come back and tell us once you know what it is.

ok, so, I'm clearly not specialised in gemmology but I can try to help a bit. The first simple test to do is to take the gem and see if you can scrach glass and steel with it, aka, when rubbing the edge against a a piece of steel or glass, does it leaves a permanent mark on it?
This will give you a fast idea of its Mohs hardness.
