Why do people like him?

He always seems in a bad mood in interviews. He's never very insightful and he's not entertaining.

I get why normies love Neil Tyson, Phil Plait, Brian Cox, etc.

But Bill Nye is just boring and always sounds unhappy.

He was dead wrong on transgenic crops for years, heavily leaning on the "you just can't know with absolute certainty what will happen" talking point until he made an actual visit at Monsanto (which was, of course, spun predictably.)
Nor was it a simple case of outdated info. His original GMO episode certainly was "more correct" at the time it aired than now, but the lazy "layman's intuition" he relied so heavily on actually distorted the science, rather than simply water it down.
Science communicators, rather than scientists, certainly perform a vital social role wherever there are people so indolent and opposed to understanding the natural world with any real substance. It's a shame Mr Nye is neither

that's why we are here trying to make them proud and touch us less.

I feel like him and neil degrasse tyson always try way to hard to make science look and sound cool and try to incorporate it into things at terrible times. Science and math will literally always be cool for only certain people. Its just how it is. I appreciate that they are trying, but Bill Nye needs to just go back to making Bill Nye the science guy episodes. Netflix should pick him up, they make tons of shitty tv shows and movies, this one would be good and probably easy to make and produce.
