Does learning how to play the drums or being able to play the drums have any effect on cognition ?
>>
>>8459789
yes
>>
>>8459811
Can you explain a bit more if you have time ?
>>
Yeah maracuyeah
>>
Learning to play the drums helps in being able to play the drums.
>>
>>8459789
i feel like something like the piano would be more beneficial.
>>
>>8459857
I can already play the piano. I'm just looking for something more different.

Mastering piano would do more to boost cognition than knowing a little piano and drums.
>>

learn violin.

sidenote: any fellow drum players have problems with the dorsal/pedalflexion?
always hated using my feet for highhats/bass, even now when i just air drum.

Drumming is great for improving timing abilities and hierarchical pattern recognition. When you're brain is engaged in rhythm processing, large groups of neurons will fire together in time with the beat. I highly recommend learning odd time signatures, like rhythms in 5 and 7, as they require motor and temporal independence from expected output. You have to learn to feel those rhythms, they aren't as natural as common time, but are much more fun to play!

Yes, it will make you better at playing the drums.
>>
>>8459789

It would make you better at music

However it won't make you better at math
>>
Cheers for all your time lads.

I disagree. Learning instruments is good for your brain.
>>
>>8461394
Then pursuing anything that requires skill is good for your brain. Go play vidya, you can do it for longer.
>>
>>8459921
Don't sit too close.
Keep your heels on the floor.
Do calf stretches.
Practise more.
>>
>>8461422
Not disputing that. The right kinds of games can definitely give your brain a good workout. It's actually scientifically proven. Doing music is probably more intensive though.
>>
>>8459789
Technically any instrument does, as does any skill that requires your brain to do work.

That being said, i don't really think you'll notice any kind of cognitive differences outside of better rhythm skills and MAYBE pattern recognition.
>>
>>8461422
Vidya force feeds you information that is rather limited in comparison to creative skills such as music.

Unless youre building speed for 12 hours in super mario 64, in which case your brain is probably working pretty efficiently already.
