>being in stem
come on, did you guys really fall for the meme?
>>8428046
In my opinion people should just do what they enjoy and stop arguing about it.

Lawyers and doctors are both people who hate their jobs so much that the only reason they do it is for the 'crazy fun' they can get on weekends with their money.
I'd rather enjoy my job AND fuck bitched on weekends.
>>8428046
>falling for the employment meme
>>8428046
Congratulations, you fell for the "lawyers are cool alphas" meme.
In reality lawyers are bigger nerds than the biggest STEM nerds since they have to read and memorize thousands upon thousands of laws, cases, precedents and facts and must be able to recall any specific one of them from memory at any time.
Talking skills/courtroom skills are basically secondary but you can't make a good show out of some nerd memorizing texts 60 hours a week, can you?

>not liking linear algebra
die
Can someone become a lawyer starting from scratch at age 25?
>>8428167
lmao
>>8428170
Just add 4 years for undergrad and 4 years for lawyer school. Sure why not.
Tho there is a glut of lawyers atm so the average new lawyer doesn't make nearly that much.
As someone intending to do MD/PhD im unsure how to feel about this
>>8428279
>intending
get in first, kiddo.
>>8428315
I sure as shit am trying.

True happiness is doing whatever you want and getting paid neet bucks to do so
At the very least, being a state sponsored important person man to discover things :^)

Where does paleoanthropology fall on this here chart? At least we actually have shit to do.

Should have learned R brainlets
>>8428353
how hard is it to become a data scientist? how's the field in general?
>>8428061
As long as it doesn't negatively affect others

>Job is really not important
>Most people I know with any degree is either jobless or working as an intern, though
>A couple PhDs and law school grads I know are struggling to get a foot in the door anywhere
Life is mediocre, I guess.
>>8428365
Basic linear algebra, advanced stats, mid tier programming. Usually need a masters or PhD. Must know scientific method well, have research experience. Domain knowledge is useful, big fields are linguistics/text analytics, medicine,.and psyc/sociology/marketing
>>8428046
If you do STEM because you want to be above upper middle then you are retarded. Personally I grew up with my parents being rich and I don't want to live the life they are living (its incredibly empty) so I am happy aiming for upper middle.
also:
those starting salaries for Doctors and Lawyers are objectively false, its a lot of money but not that much
>everyone pretends to hate them until they need one and end up paying one 400 dollars an hour
this is why everybody hates them
>>8428046
20 years from now lawyers and doctors will be just data scientists who know machine learning.
>>8429748
the AMA and the bar association won't let that happen, sorry.
>>8428101
>going to college just because I'm expected to

What am I supposed to do?
I don't even have bad grades, my number one challenge is motivating myself to do shit every day when I don't care about it and I don't care about anything and think about killing myself.
It's hard to every day wake up and go "okay let's learn this shit I don't care about so I can get a job and live a life I hate for 40 or 50 years"
I hate it all.
>>8430466
I don't have any friends or hobbies.
I guess CS is a comfy average job? Idk, maybe I should be an accountant?
I don't really know what to do.
I was considering switching from mech eng to industrial design. Bad idea?

Maybe I should switch to accounting? That seems like comfy outside of tax season.
desu something where I could work remote/from home seems like the best but I don't know what sort of jobs you can do that
>>8428266

>>8428111
Dunno about STE, but M can be really enjoyable.
>>8429788
Overtime sounds like it makes it worth it on paper, but in practice it sucks. You have one day a week to do everything. Everything. Yeah I make more money than I can spend, but what's the point when I don't have time to do anything?
I'm hoping with a year of experience I can find something better, maybe try to get an MS or MBA. Might just give up and get certified to teach. Anything to get me out of this shit.
