It is fun when things you did as a kid somehow become serious when you start studying mathematics. Your example is good. Watching numberphile garbage is not more than brainless fun but when you are actually studying geometry, knowing the regular polytopes is one of the most important things you need to know.

Another good example is when people are in like 3rd grade and they try to multiply using the taught algorithm really big numbers like 99999999999999*99999999999999999 as fast as they can and then when you study elementary number theory the first things you see are algorithms for division, multiplication and addition and see why they work.

That is something no one else gets.
