I am stuck with this one. How do I become proficient at math?

stewart isn't terrible, it is just denigrated because sci autists prefer that there were no difference between calculus and analysis courses.

>proficient
You may become good enough at Calculus, certainly not proficient at it, and much less proficient at math.

It's not a bad book. It's not the best one, either. But it's certainly the best for beginners. If you complement it with Schaum's outlines of Calculus, you'll be good.

>>Single Variable Calculus

>Intro/primer
"Calculus Made Easy" by Silvanus Thompson and Martin Gardner
"The Manga Guide to Calculus" by Hiroyuki Kojima and Shin Togami

>Weak Students
"Calculus: An Intuitive and Physical Approach" (Dover) by Morris Kline (Very hand hold'y)
"Calculus With Analytic Geometry" by George Simmons (Lots of history)
"Elementary Calculus: An Infinitesimal Approach" by Jerome Keisler (Uses infinitesimals)
"A First Course in Calculus" by Serge Lang

>Strong Students
"Calculus" by Spivak (Good mathematical exposition, poor motivation, no applications)
"Calculus, Vol. 1: One-Variable Calculus, with an Introduction to Linear Algebra" by Apostol (Good motivation and problems)
"Introduction to Calculus and Analysis, Volume I" by Richard Courant and Fritz John (Good motivation and applications, very difficult problems)
Differential and Integral Calculus by the Russian mathematician N.S. Piskunov (hard to come by)

>Classic References
"A Course of Pure Mathematics" by G. H. Hardy
"Introduction to Analysis of the Infinite", "Foundations of Differential Calculus", "Foundations of Integral Calculus" by Leonhard Euler

>>Multivariable and Vector Calculus
>Weak
"Div, Grad, Curl, and All That: An Informal Text on Vector Calculus" by Schey
"Calculus of Several Variables" by Serge Lang

>Intermediate
"Calculus, Vol. 2: Multi-Variable Calculus and Linear Algebra with Applications to Differential Equations and Probability" by Apostol
"Introduction to Calculus and Analysis, Volume II" by Richard Courant and Fritz John

>Advanced
"Advanced Calculus of Several Variables" (Dover Book) by C. H. Edwards Jr.
"Advanced Calculus: A Geometric View" by Callahan
"Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra and Differential Forms: A Unified Approach" by Hubbard and Hubbard
"Advanced Calculus: A Differential Forms Approach" by Harold M. Edwards
"Advanced Calculus" by Shlomo Zvi Sternberg and Lynn Harold Loomis (H-A-R-D)

Stopped reading there.

I just cannot trust you for that.

It's really basic but not bad.

>no calculus on manifolds by spivak on mutli variable
Anon.

Apostol's and Spivak's texts are the classics. Would especially recommend Apostol. He goes over a lot more material and has about the same rigor as Spivak, anyway. If you want to really know calculus, those two books are where you want to look. After you get more "mathematical maturity," consider looking into real analysis to understand what calculus is *really* about.
>>
I like Salas/Hille/Etgen because it focuses on the concepts rather than getting hung up on memorizing obscure identities. You'll really appreciate that if you're planning on going into engineering.

Stewart's not terrible in the text sections. The exercises were put together by sadistic fags, though.

That's falls into analysis

>>Analysis
>Single Variable (with Metric Spaces)
"Real Mathematical Analysis" by Pugh (weaker version of Rudin)
"Principles of Mathematical Analysis" by Rudin
"Mathematical Analysis" by Apostol
"Mathematical Analysis I & II" by Zorich

>Multivariable Analysis
"Functions of Several Variables" by Fleming
"Analysis on Manifolds" by Munkres
"Calculus on Manifolds" by Spivak
"Differential Forms and Applications" by do Carmo

>Fourier Analysis
"Fourier Series" (Dover) by Tolstov
"Fourier Analysis: An Introduction" by Stein & Shakarchi
"Fourier Analysis and its Applications" by Folland
"Fourier Analysis" by Körner
"Fourier Series and Integrals" by Dym and McKean

>Complex Analysis
"Visual Complex Analysis" by Tristan Needham (reference)
"Complex Analysis" by Stein & Shakarchi
"Functions of One Complex Variable" by Conway
"Complex Analysis" by Ahlfors

>Real Analysis (Measure Theory)
"Real Analysis: Measure Theory, Integration, and Hilbert Spaces" by Stein & Shakarchi
"Real Analysis" by Royden
"Real Analysis: Modern Techniques and Their Applications" by Folland
"Real and Complex Analysis" by Rudin

I said calculus.

Isn't Apostol the non-brainlet calculus book?
>>
Surprised nobody has mentioned Thomas' calculus text, it's a very good calculus text similar to Stewart but the exercises are more well written and the topics are treated a little more thoroughly
>>
>>8416343
Yes. Apostol is the only calculus text you should ever read.

>>8416355
Thomas is garbage.

This. Apostol master race.

I felt bad when I heard he died.

Why is Thomas' text bad?
