Hello,
I have a bachelor degree in Computer Science and recently switched my master to medical informatics, as that university has a decent artificial intelligence group, which is my main research interest. I already worked on a few research projects. I now have to choose between bio- and neuroinformatics but do not know which of the two offers more for artificial intelligence research. Are any specialists from either of the two here on this board to help me with this decision?pic unrelated

self bump :(

Try /g/, those guys are autistic enough to tell you exactly what the best way to fail at life is.

Id say neuro satan, bioinformatics focuses more on sequencing, alignments and protein 3d modeling i think.

Neuroinformatics will be the most rewarding from your products. It just so happens we're about to hit a new level of AI usefulness for neural networks.

Either that or a new AI winter lol.

Howso?

Some successful results => enthusiasm => more results => funding => marketing cancer gets in => marketing bullshit => moar marketing bullshit => EVEN MOAR MARKETING BULLSHIT => total disappointment => no funding… The cancer that kills pretty much everything.
>>

There's a huge influx on data resources that is incoming from R&D that really needs to be processed by the next generation of computer scientists for machine learning. I'm pretty confident future funding is also promising based on the outcome of the last few years of influx.

That's right, but what I'm trying to say, there is a lot of really interesting results, but also a lot of groundless hype… And when the hype dies, real work is hurt hard as well, being indistinguishable from hype by non-specialists.

I had not seen your second post before posting. I understand your point. All that really depends. Neuroscience and AI are really burgeoning fields with bilderburg members lately. No one wants to die. This is more of a moderate term promise. There are definitely near expected promises, but I imagine there are plenty of backers that see a huge dangling carrot in neuro/bioscience development that hasn't been presented so tantalizingly in front of them they couldn't resist being very blinded by their biological clocks.

I know that sounds like a shitty argument, "this time is different!" But I genuinely believe it. A lot more durable capitalist optimism should be expected from the ever-dying old money.
