How much energy would it take to deform the strongest metals? Like high-tensile steel or carbon nanotubes?
>>8380517
145 energies.
What about the strongest of all metals, diamond?
Would 1000 tons of TNT be enough to destroy 1 cubic meter of carbon nanotubes?
>>8380543
Tnt can't melt carbon nanotubes.

this is actually really easy to calculate.
just look at the stress/strain curve for any material of interest and integrate the region under the linear elastic regime. you end up with units of energy, and thats how much energy it takes before you get into plastic deformation.
yay calculus.
