What would it take to become a polymath?
>>8376054
More than one math.
>>8376054
Be a genius and be on the autism spectrum. Normal people have no hope of mastering even one topic, neurotypical geniuses focus on one thing and perfect it.
>>8376054
Don't become an engineer. Non-thinking beings can't be polymaths.
>>8376054
Generalist, without compartmentalization (well integrated framework of knowledge and understand of how all things relate), and specific deeper interests.

So he should become a philosopher?
>>8376097
Didn't want to say it directly, but yep. He should recognize the dual nature of every technical field and understand the philosophical aspects. This is what allows the bridging of even highly specific and complex matters, to other areas.
Another (more restrictive) term for this is "lateral thinking".

OP here.
I'm not really trying to become a STEM polymath, my main interests are arts and humanities.
>>8376104
Then you definitely have come to the right board hheheeh
>>8376108

I just wanted you guys opinion.
>>8376115
>you guys are smart
Only insofar as they are autistically devoted to their specific area of study. You won't find good polymath advice here. Most scientists do not value other intellectual pursuits. You can't fault them for being on the autism spectrum, though. They don't have any control over it.

Except von Neumann was a neurotypical polymath.
>>8376063
I have a genius intelligence quotient and Asperger's syndrome, why am I not a polymath?
>>8377371
That might be true but hero worship precludes becoming a polymath so I guess thats it for you.

Why is von Neumann hate the new meme?
