Let's you be a math teacher which itself is a useless job.
I really regret not majoring in math. Ah well.

As a math major I think I can properly explain.
A math degree is a qualification that says 'I can create new math for you, for me, and for everyone'.
A constant in every class is how everything starts with a list of axioms and then theorems are proven in order. Even when you know something you are not supposed to use it unless it was already proven (obviously). All of this serves to show you how the great mathematicians of the past were able to create their great theories so that in the future you too will be able to create beautiful mathematics.
This is why you will see math majors anywhere.

How come math majors are being hired in insurance, communications, engineering, software, security, hardware, investment, consulting, and biology all at the same time?
It is simple. People who know mathematics can do very little. They can apply their formulas and solve some elementary problem that already has general solutions detailed in textbooks, etc. But business is about new problems and new problems need new mathematics and who else is going to develop that but someone trained specifically in mathematics.

Using my math degree I can prove that the sum of all natural numbers is equal to -1/12

>mathematician
>70% math majors

None of those jobs are traditional 'office jobs'.
And if you ask me, I'd rather be in an air conditioned office all day than anywhere else.
>>8297581
all those jobs are office jobs where you sit all day infront of a computer
go ahead and read what the day to day life is like

>all those jobs are office jobs where you sit all day infront of a computer
I see nothing wrong here.
While I'm here. What would be in store for a PhD in mathematics. Pure math vs applied.
>>8297600
t. someone who wants to rot away instead of doing something engaging and fun
>>8297510
>what does a math degree do?
math, duh
>>8297604
>a job can only be fun if you're running around yelling at construction workers to work faster

Pure math: Starbucks
Applied: A depressing actuarial job

What's your degree?
>>8297627
>literature
kek
>>8297627
w-why is everyone not bashing chemistry anymore, I like that though
>>8297604
nigga, thats the description for pretty much every entry level STEM job. its called paying dues.
you aren't supposed to stay at that spot forever.
>>8297627
>literature
So, your engaging and fun job is being a barista?
>>8297637
>I said "kek," indicating laughter
>therefore I have no sense of humor
>>8297653
So are you unwilling to share your major? Because it inevitably leads to a desk job for the first few years of your professional life, if it's in STEM.

did you take your own advice about reading about the daily life? Being an intern is hell.

>better
>>8297733
please tell me the glamour of your office rot math boy
>>8297531
I'm still a poor academic, just regret it not being in mathematics.
>>8297752
why?
>>8298067
it's obvious. left as an exercise to the reader.
>>8297510
you get to understand the fundamental concepts of the applied world around you
if you want big money, just be a drug dealer or a high-frequency stock trader
