Well OP, when I was younger I could feel pity for other people.
When I was a teenager I could feel pity only for me.
Now I don't feel pity anymore, neither for me nor for anyone else.
The world is as it is, I've tried making a difference and I failed. There is no point in feeling bad or good about it. Things will happen no matter whether I like them, want them or try to do anything about them.
Once you realize exactly how much influence you efforts have, you'll understand that worrying about it, simply makes no sense.
I won't tell you to live your life to the fullest or some other optimistic crap like that. You have to find your own reasons to live.
Do the small things that make you feel better (by better I mean less worse), this may be stuff like watching a movie, playing games, fucking whores, etc...
It's good to have big goals, like being a famous scientist, a millionaire or finding true love... but don't be a slave to some ideal that may never come to fruition.
If you were a try-hard, sad dude all your life, I won't feel much happier when you finally reach your big goal.
