hey /sci/, how difficult is it to build/gather materials for a fusor?

>how difficult is it to build/gather materials for a fusor
all you need is a high voltage supply and a pair of conductors.

You can literally build a fusor using a lightening and some water.
>>
>>8269190
but one that has potential to grow in size?
>>
>>8269200
Use a very large HV power supply and 2 conductors inside a low-pressure tube.

BTW in a serious note, don't actually do this.
There's a high chance you'll get x-rays or even neutron-activate various materials.
In any case it's very dangerous and shouldn't be attempter by anyone with just average or below average knowledge on the subject.or radiation safety and nuclear physics.
>>
>>8269217
I want to experiment with it, ill cover it in lead duh
>>
>>8269244

Submerging it in water would also be acceptable.

Really though, you shouldnt do this if you arent experienced in working with high voltages. Or with extremely low pressure vacuum systems.

There are many ways you could very easily kill yourself doing this.

enlighten me aside from the chamber imploding on itself and radiation poisioning/cancer
>>
hi sci
>>
>>8269277

Well there's the chamber imploding as you mentioned.

High voltage arcing. Insulation will be a bit of an issue. at 50kv, even wood conducts electricity.

The xrays and UV generated can be stopped relitively easily. The neutrons are the dangerous part.

Since neutrons are not charge carrying, they are very hard to stop. The pass through pretty much anything. When they are absorbed by a material, they have the nasty tendency of making that material radioactive. (the neutron is absorbed by another nucleus, that atom becomes a radioactive isotope and decays.

This happening within your body caused by neutron exposure is very very bad.

FYI, most of the videos you see on youtube showing ''fusors'' are bullshit.

for real? why? what did they actually show?
>>

Building is easy, gathering parts takes awhile. Took me months to find an appropriate supply that was only a few hundred dollars.

<- What about this for neutron radiation?
>>
>>8271097
please don't use lead for neutron moderation/shielding. it has no effect. water with boric acid is good, as well as cadmium-113
>>
>>8269173
What the hell do you want to fuse?

What about building snowboard halls first to learn the isolation?
>>
>>8271097
What about concrete, directly? And values also?

What the fuck is a fusor? You need copper wire for fusor and hou have a fusor... Arent you trying building just teslas plasma ball with different look?

Because fast moving neutrons.
>>
>>8271119
Where's your neutron detector m8?
>>
>>8271125
Never actually put gas in thing. Built it two years ago and no one would sell a high school student that stuff.
>>
>>8271123
Stick to snowboard halls if you are afraid

For catching neutrons try water, its easiest for neutrons.... Than concreed....

If you not retard, you build cyclotron, than neutrons work, dont do harm.

You mean like yourself? You can't get fusion with just "2 conductors and HV." An actual fusor needs to have an extremely high vacuum and, most importantly, deuterium; two things a novice would not be able to obtain. A demo fusor like the one in the OP will generate, at most, a ultraviolet light.
>>
>>8271075
>for real? why? what did they actually show?
A "demo fusor," also known as a star in a jar. An actual fusor capable of fusion is much bigger, not made of glass, but gets the same visual result. Ultimately, the difference between a fusor and the thing in the OP is the radiation profile---ie real fusors emit the aforementioned x-rays and neutrons, demo fusors do not.
>>
>>8271125
That thing would implode before emitting a single neutron.
