Are masters degrees a meme?
>>8268216
Depends on the field and if you had to pay for it. For example, in math, masters degree only programs are a meme.
>tfw contract engineer
>tfw I have to pay for my own Master's

>my boss is a jew

Oh hell no. Quit, anon, he's looking for an excuse to sue you. Or anyone. For anything.

Well I was looking to get one in comp sci (no bully) to try to get into the machine learning/data science field. Already have a bs in comp sci though.
In biology fields its pretty much expected that you should get a masters first and then a PHD.

depends on your country
have to do master's before phd in canada

>have to do master's before phd
That's standard anyway.
>>8268216
Only if you're paying for it.

Not in chemistry, not in America at least... Masters in chemistry is a waste of a degree, it basically means you weren't good enough for a PhD.
>>8268403
Very uncommon in America.

Yeah but a masters in another country is even more worthless then one from America in chemistry.
Also chemistry courses overseas are much less rigorous. Most chem master students from India/China have never seen actual NMR or HPLC instrument. I was running both instruments before I even had a bachelors degree.

That's kind of unrelated to what I said, but anyway developing countries have a lot of problems on every front and a lot of universities there may be on a really tight budget to the point they can't even buy that kind of instruments.
I don't think that generally the quality of masters in other developed countries, say uk or Germany, is lower that in the usa.

in germany a master has a higher value than in usa because a bachelor only has 3 years and not much room for specialization. i am enrolled as a cs student and in my bachelor i can only choose 4 courses and a minor, while my master goes 2 years and i can choose every course there.

I had meant that a M.A. comes before a Ph.D. That's all.
>>8268216
not at all. masters degree's are the best ROI you can get.
>>8268216
Yes, 4chan is going to be able to say with 100% certainty that for any masters degree in any situation it will never pay off ever. Make important life decisions based on strange generalizations.
>>8268217
Why do you say that?
>>8268739
Oh fuck off, how often does this have to be explained.
He's looking for multiple opinions/ personal stories to get a general picture about it.
