So there's a MINOR PLANET floating around Neptune? And we just now found out about this? /sci/ what's the deal? Why are we so inept as a species that we didn't already know about this until now? Is it possible there is shit all over our solar system that we haven't found yet?

I thought we were all advanced and shit? Like we figured out the solar system like a hundred or a million years ago or something and we can see the edge of the observable universe but we can't see a planet hiding by Neptune all of this time?

It could be as faint as 25th magnitude, most of the sky hasn't been surveyed to that depth. Objects in reflected light fall off in brightness as ~r^4. You can see galaxies at redshift 10, because it doesn't matter what direction you look in, they are common in the sky. With this you have to survey very large regions of the sky (if it even exists) because there could be 0 or 1 in ~10,000 square degrees.
