What is thunder?
In elementary/middle(?) school a teacher had us brainstorm ideas about weather.
My idea on thunder was lightning "cut" through the air, creating empty space. And the sound of thunder was the air colliding back together.
I should google this.

I was taught it was friction from the clouds colliding with each other.

why would this create thunder? this thread stupid

lightning is like a large spark
The atmosphere filters high pitched sounds much more than low pitched sounds
this is especially true in fog, hence the specific sound of fog horns
small sparks make sounds: you know this from when you get a shock with static electricity from a shopping trolley or woolen jumper or something.
put all the pieces together.

==NO==
Depends on the makeup of the gas and the amount of energy put in from the generator.

I think you're mixing how to make tornados with how to make thunder. thunder is about the charges not temperature.
Expanding plasma can be loud. The typical thunder is mostly from atmospheric reflections.
yes.
