No, they clearly meant to show that Bran warged into hodor's past in order to control his present self without coming out of the trance he was in (so that he could keep learning the history of Westeros).
They also possibly implied that during the same attack, his shouting to "burn them all" (them being the white walkers) caused the mad king to lose his mind and resort to burning his subjects.
This stuff is spoon-fed to you in the show. There's no alternate timeline. The fucking trees are atemporal beings.
