>>8142503
His own space project Blue Origin is doing a lot of good things. New Shepard with custom engines for suborbital tourism, and designing engines for ULA's next generation Vulcan launcher.
Amazon itself may last a while. What else does Bezos invest in?
>>8142274
SpaceX is settling in to a three week launch cadence. If all goes well, the Vandenberg range opens up again, and they start using the old Shuttle launch pad after the Falcon Heavy debut, they can retire a lot of their backlog this year.
>>8142629
Im looking forward to more news regarding that engine.
>>8142503
bezos wants to do real space colonies and not send lunatics to die on mars
i think he'll have the last laugh really
>>8143199

Thats MarsOne, not SpaceX
>>8143172
The raptor is gonna be better than the BE-4 anyways
bezos btfo
2 hours 13 minutes
>>8143337
BE-4 will be simpler and cost less and will be ready before Raptor. BlueOrigin has found a way to simplify the full flow gas engine concept.
However I dont think he can catch up to spacex as long as Musk lives.
>>8143500
You got any links? I've been struggling to find any recent writing about both the Raptor and the BE-4

I like how while the rocket is going straight up, the kerbal diagram shows the fall-over curve slowly growing.
>Stage 1 starts falling back to Earth
REENTRY BURN
oh boy
Fuck m8, I thought they will show 1st stage entry burn
why are they not showing the rocket camera as it comes down?
lol are you enjoying the NASA CGI channel ? More round earth propaganda bullshit and you're all eating it.
A brief frame of the landed stage! but no further word...
LOL FAIL
lol, nobody cares about the 2nd stage
BOOM
if this post ends in 5-9 it landed successfully
>>8143684
Probably can't keep the downlink going during re-entry. They'll get the SD card from the GoPro later.
Not sure why the ground camera latched up like that, though. At least we saw enough to know it happened.
So...did it survive the landing? the fucking feed cut out again...
They really need to work on that drone signal, seems like every time they land it cuts out
>>8143685
I was about to make a very similar shitpost :^)
>>8143693
At least it launched on time this time.

>>8143628
Nice to see that Earl has found himself a decent job
what is the velocity of the ejected gas ?
how can the rocket keep accelerating, even when it's at 10000 km/h ?
no way the ejected gas is going faster than 10000 km/h
>>8143703
Which is something NASA solved like 60 years ago but I guess SpaceX is just doing shit by the cheapest bidder
Probably some fucking off the shelf camera
This is why only the government should be allowed to play in space
>>8143698
yeah, thats what I meant. The 1st stage is the most interesting aspect of those missions
>>8143695
The video is fed from the drone ship via satellite.
I imagine it's not easy to keep the dish steady when the boat is rocking, and then you've got vibrations from a giant rocket landing.
it's dead, jim
>>8143695
any particualr reason they have to use satellite video ? they can't beam to a ship->satellite->hq?
>>8143713
It cuts out because of the interference from the plasma from the engine
OF COURSE I STILL LOVE YOU, BRUH
>>8143722
They can't have any crewed ships near the landing zone, in the event that the rocket goes off course.
>>8143714
>camera locks up
>yea this is why you shouldn't allow others to into space
>because of a camera
>>8143721
No, seems fine. Nothing moving, just a little smoke and flame.
>>8143721
You can see the first stage tipping over for a few frames.
>>8143721
*remember*
>>8143731
>>8143732
In this frame you can see it standing still. That "tipping" is just the leg itself.

First stage is kill
>>8143764
PAY ATTENTION THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT THE DATA
THE REALLY VALUABLE DATA
EVERYONE CARES ABOUT THAT
NOOOO
god damn it!
So how much money does a successful landing save SpaceX? Are they actually reusing these stages, I can't imagine there not being any structural damage on reentry
SpaceX says 'unfortunately, it seems we lost the first stage'
but what if flacon 9 was not kill
>>8143778
Then Elon would need a bigger garage.
>>8143776
First reuse attempt will be in October
Rest in peace sweet prince
>>8143776
they want to do their first reuse in like september or something
All of the rockets landed so far are perfectly fine to relaunch
AWW HELL NAH
>>8143776
30% right now
Theoretically 90%+
Only 2% of the cost is fuel. Future SpaceX rockets will be designed with more emphasis on reusabiltiy.
Elon actually said that the first recovered stage could have been reflown the same day it landed - they found literally nothing wrong with it
>>8143781
old image?
I knew something was wrong when the first stage just suddenly appeared in frame. Usually it takes a few frames to land, so this meant it was going too fast.
>>8143747
/sci/ was wrong again. Who'd have thought.
Funny how the stream ALWAYS works when it lands fine...
it getting higher and losing velocity
ololololololololololol
>>8143793
it's because they cut it off but they say they don't
>>8143788
yes
>>8143790
It seemed to land fine, so it's probably those fucking legs again.
How hard is it to build a reliable landing gear?
>>8143788
yes.
No image of the new one. It look like it landed, but they say it was lost.
>>8143793
No it doesn't, JCSAT glitched out for a few seconds on landing
>>8143793
everything is fine goy, I mean guy
>>8143798
It came in too fast probably
>>8143795
Did Rodman give you a boost to reach the keyboard, Kim?
MUSK CONFIRMS RUD
why do they use a fish eye lens?
>>8143808
wider angle = bigger field of view
duh
Elon press conference next?
>>8143800
Well looks like a fire is burning, might have compromised a landing leg
So where do we go to see the landing later when it is released? Like the helicopter footage? Like where they upload it?
Fell off the edge
the fuck?
Show footage of the landing aftermath!
3 out of 4 so far. nice.
>>8143805
butt mad your rocket got BTFO Elon ?
how's the divorce going on bro ?
>>8143812
Oh true. Structural failure due to heat maybe.
>Elon Musk Verified account
>@elonmusk
>Looks like thrust was low on 1 of 3 landing engines. High g landings v sensitive to all engines operating at max.
Begs the question, will the BFR have engine out capability for landing? How will they make it more safe & durable?
>>8143814
same place you just watched the livestream
>>8143812
Probably this + it is a bit close to the edge. The amount of fire and smoke was a lot more than before, so probably something failed with the re-entry engines and that caused the fire. Still an impressive feat, 3/4 worked fine and this one was almost successful as well.
>>8143823
So, you're saying 4chan since 4chan seems to get it before it pops up there.
ITT : armchair rocket landing scientists
https://twitter.com/SpaceX
>>8143825
4chan didnt host the livestream. you most likely saw it here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckjP8stlzxI
I don't see you launching rockets from your armchair
>>8143828
wasnt that rapid desu
>>8143829
No, I mean in the past 4chan always posts the rocket webms of it landing or crashing before the actual stuff is released on youtube. Not the live stuff, the stuff from the helicopter.
>>8143832
thats just people convereting their vids into webms
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jEz03Z8azc
>>8143831
https://mobile.twitter.com/elonmusk/status/743098357728444418
I missed it. How'd it go ?
Elon says this was the hardest landing to date; will post video of crash landing once they can get to the cameras on the droneship. Droneship confirmed to be ok.
>>8143857
Satellite orbited OK, first stage tipped over on the barge and got rekt (probably a landing leg).
>>8143857
it landed while on fire due to engine damage and then fell off the side of the boat, it seems
>>8143837
That's not what I mean, faggot.
>>8143893
thats exactly what you mean. check out their channel. they have all the landing/crashing videos you are talking about
Think it'll have exploded from falling off, or can they fish it out of the ocean and salvage?
>>8143900
Jesus fucking christ, brainlet, I mean someone uploads it to 4chan before it appears on youtube. How is that so difficult yo comprehend?
>>8143911
>or can they fish it out of the ocean and salvage?
No.
>>8143913
well, that doesnt happen. you just dont know how to internet
>>8143925
or maybe someone from SpaceX browse's 4chan
So what's the spacex count? How many falcon 9 first stages have they lost, and how many successful landing have they pull off? Also, have they ever used the same first stage to launch two rockets?
>>8143874
I think they have been steadily pushing how hard the stage reenters to set some maximums and limits and see what fails first
This is not their fully reusable vehicle, this is just a means to an end after all.
>>8143964
read the thread, nigger.
>>8143970
But how about rocket fuel?
>>8144062

>>8144129

Go to bed Bezos.
>>8144132
Is it?
It's just an oxidizer right?
>>8144155
?????
is air flammable??
>>8144144
They already succeeded twice with that, although one of those the center engine got knocked around a bit.
According to Elon, this time the problem was that one of three engines wasn't running at proper power during the landing.
>>8144157
Okay I didn't think it was.
That oxygen is inflammable is a pretty common misconception.
>>8142268
AARRRR!
I know, here there are some folks from SpaceX.
Somebody, show this pic to Elon Musk. He is totally pissing me off, crashing his rockets on the droneship and upgrading them for new crasings. He need to improve this terrible platform, not rockets!
Take two old philippine barges, make big catamaran and raise the platform 15-20 meters up! Put many springs (maybe pneumatic springs to prevent rebound) under it, and many arrestor gears from decommissioned aircraft carriers. Rocket needs pretty cool shock-absorber! It needs to extend shorty time of landing overload fckin much longer.
To prevent falling to the side, use top amortized ropes. And "jungle hunter" rope trap which is activated when rocket touches the floor.
Regards from Russia.
>>8144187
do the barges have to be pinoy?
Suppose they were thai instead?
>>8144190
Does not care. They must be simple, cheap to not overspend 9000 billion dollars.
>>8144187
The point of the current landing setup is so he can land rockets anywhere.
>>8144199
the point of the current landing setup is to get test data from ballistic reentries, practice different landing techniques, stress the rocket to failure, and because it can't return to landing site while lofting the payload.
Obviously in your next gen rocket you'll need to build with ample payload so you can do a nice soft landing back at your launch site.
>>8144199
>The point of the current landing setup is so he can land rockets anywhere.
Anywhere, where is special infrastructure for it, anyway.
>>8144204
They could land the first stage in a wal mart parking lot if they wanted to.
The barges are necessity due to fuel limitations and government worrying.
>>8144187
You don't know the 1st thing about engineering do you?

so do we know anything about the next rocket they are building right now?
>>8145071
What do you mean - the next 9, or the next design (Heavy)?
>>8143790
The video feed hangs immediately prior to landing every single time. Recovered video from the platform and possibly onboard camera if it survived will likely be available later.
