Why do I get the impression that, apart from france in maths, mainland EU countries are a complete non entity in terms of scientific achievement these days? Is science outlawed in Germany and Spain and Italy or something like that?

Also all the small Eastern Euro countries are always extremely quick to boast that they learn Real analysis at the age of 6, "omg how could dumb murrikans not do this" but we all know what universities we've heard of in those countries.

Germany has a LOT of research output iirc.

Thing is, most people with EU nationalities do research in the UK or US because that's where a lot of research happens. Mediterranean countries are too poor for research nowadays but there are lots of Spanish, Greeks and Italians in foreign unis. They just don't stay at their home countries because research is barely profitable or significant (compared to US or UK). Research is for countries who can afford it, it's not a priority when you owe billions to Germany.

We have some serious research groups here in the netherlands the Qsoft group is laying a lot of ground work for quantum computing and the UvA has some big names in various math and physics fields.
Slavs and Russians will always brag about their education, this is a fact.

>Why do I get the impression that [...] mainland EU countries are a complete non entity in terms of scientific achievement these days?

Probably because you're not a scientist and therefore not up to date on ongoing projects around the world. There's tons of research going on in Europe: you just wont hear about it because it's science and science is rarely sensational.

>Why do I get the impression that, apart from france in maths, mainland EU countries are a complete non entity in terms of scientific achievement these days?
Probably because you're uninformed.* Europe pretty much leads the world in every field of frontier physics, e.g. particle physics (and all of fundamental physics, really), fusion and plasma physics, astrophysics, material science (and all related disciplines), just to name a few. If you have never ever heard of CERN, the VLT (and the E-ELT), W7X, ITER, ESA, and the main institutions operating them (Max Planck Society, CNRS, etc), then there's nothing I can really do for you.

*(Your question is even more stupid if you're coming from the UK, since a great deal of the relevant science the UK does involves European projects and/or EU budget. National science funding in the UK is absolutely terrible by western standards and has been going downhill for decades - source: i'm brit)

Sharia law hasn't come just yet but soon™

because we always have best education. slavs contributed most of advanced math

Scientists from Europe move to the US so that socialists dont take everything they earn (compounded by the fact that the US will pay them more anyway)

but why is that infographic only about women and corporal punishment?
What about finance? What about society? What about health? etc

Is there more or is it yet another attempt at trying to make western cucks feel superior while their women beat them and cuck them by showing their bodies to everyone and by cheating on their partners? Or maybe an attempt to justify getting intoxicated with alcohol and trying to make it look like a non-savage behavior (while it completely is).

>ignoring germany and the nordic countries
The nordic countries are smaller, but regularly put out seminal works in condensed matter (which is what I pay most attention to).

Acting like Germany isn't home to some of the highest research productivity institutions in the world just demonstrates how much effort you put into ignoring any and all information regarding your claim.

To top it all of, you don't even mention one of the BEST research institutions in the WORLD at ETH Zurich for Christ's sake.

3/10, made me reply

This is largely false nowadays in science. In codemonkey stuff (google, etc), sure, but these days we even observe a reverse brain drain in fields where Europe has taken back the lead. (Anecdotally, I see more and more US staff at my university myself)

Money is one thing (if scientists wanted money, they wouldn't have become scientists in the first place, and besides, a permanent position in a western european uni is still quite well-paid) but the scope of the project is more important.

if im not mistaken all the big far out discoveries today is done at CERN in europe and outside both france and britan.

this is just typical phenomena were you dont look outside your own face.
>>
>>8131942
Because you haven't looked hard enough. Spanish transplanting medicine is one of the best of the world. Germany's industry and research is so powerful its one of the few countries there that hasnt sent its production to China. Then there's CERN, the nordic countries, all the ancient universities with 7 centuries old books like its nothing. This will probably shock you, but in Europe, there are 200 people towns using Romanical period churches. Everywhere. Rome has to literally throw away most of its findings because else they wouldt be able to even dig cable lines. Get your head out of your ass, and actually research a bit, man. Else you just come around as really ignorant of the academic world

In OP's defense he did say "these days" so part of what you said doesn't apply

Presumably because you have no idea what you're talking about?

Because you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
