Holy Shit.

Dr Elsevier, I'm EU
publishers btfo
Lets take bets, how long do you think the US will continue having paid for publishers while the EU has open access? 10 years? 20? 40?
>>8105721
Research isn't paid for by journals, it's paid for by grants.
In fact you have to pay to get your stuff published, and then you don't see a cent afterward.
Not a big deal. Everybody knows someone who has access to the document you want and you use their key every time. But I'm glad publishers are put on their place for once.

>completely missing the issue
Elsevier pls
Enlighten me: what is the justification for paywalls again? Serious question. Some paywalls demand $35 for access to 1 fucking paper?! Why is this a business?
>>8105882
I thought the NSF already mandated eventual open access. Like, after two years or so.

Copyright laws have gotten very silly over the years. In addition to that, the only way for a person in academia to make a name is by publishing in journals. As such, they more or less have the higher ground.
>>8106045
Because libraries buy subscriptions?
No normal person actually pays for a single paper (do they?)
>>8106055
because we let them.
We got lured by capitalism, and we got bit in the ass once again.
>>8105715
>that's why professors in my have stopped publishing like 8 years ago
>>8105715
Wow, I just watched a dock about this guy after having never heard of him before. What a coincidence to see it here.
>>8105715
Man I was going to vote out on the EU referendum but this has me seriously reconsidering.
>>8105715
>all european scientific articles
>european
So, nothing of value then. No wonder they will be free.
