Why can heat be transmitted through empty space/vacuum? Sound, for example, needs air or water to do so, but heat doesn't.

heat cannot be transmitted through space/vacuum.
heat is transmitted through a medium.

radiation can be transmitted through space and vacuum though, because it's an electromagnetic wave.
>>
Use your fucking brain, stupid.
And your statement isn't inherently true.
Google black body radiation you dumb motherfucker.
>>
Vacuum is filled with aether. Aether is a medium for electromagnetic waves

Ok, thanks. I had a misconception of heat.
So, the heat from the Sun is generated by the electromagnetic waves and not direct heat fron the Sun?
>>
>>8097145
Thats what i guess
>>
>>8097145
exactly

we recieve a spectrum of radiation from the sun, some of it is absorbed by the atmosphere.
The rest reaches us.

After it is absorbed, it can heat up whatever absorbs it.

pic related
yellow is proportion of power emitted by the sun for each frequency
red is what reaches us on the ground

The 'heat' transmitted through vacuum is actually electromagnetic radiation in the infra-red range.

In fact, all electromagnetic radiation 'carries heat', i.e. can transfer vibrational kinetic energy from one place to another, it's just that at the temperature of 293K (room temperature) this radiation is emitted in the infra-red. Thus, there is a constant exchange of infra-red radiation between your skin and the environment. This is why space is so 'cold', because although there's nothing to conduct heat away from you, you continue to emit infra-red without receiving any back yourself.
>>

What makes electromagnetic radiation?
>>
>>8097145
Basically, electromagnetic radiation is a transverse wave. Photons are the particle of light which carry a discrete energy proportional to the frequency of the wave.

When a photon meets an electron, the electron can become 'excited' and gain the energy from the photon, moving between energy levels.

Electrons de-excite and emit a single or series of photons depending on the energy level and atom, which can go on to do other photon activities.

Essentially the movement of electrons is heat, and light can cause electrons to move.

Ionisation can also occur which will mean the emitted electron will hit other electrons and transfer energy to them as well.

i.e. space is a vacuum -> no atoms -> no heat
but light carries energy -> hits atom at Earth -> creates heat

How wave can travel in vacuum without a medium?
>>
>>8097116
Heat is defined as the average amount of kinetic energy in a group of particles, so it inherently requires particles to calculate or talk about.
>>
>>8097172
the medium is itself.
>>
>>8097116
Because heat is transferred through microscopic molecules called metachlorines. The vacuum has no metachlorines and so it cannot transfer the heat.

interesting side note: scientoligists train to reduce their thetan level which is tied directly to metachlorine blocking, by reducing the thetan levels the scientoligists are able to withstand immense amount of radiations because their bodies cant transmit the heat.

what?

imagine a transparent sheet of paper that you superimpose on a regular sheet of paper.

use two screws on opposite sides of the sheets to keep them together.

If you draw something on the transparent sheet, someone on the normal sheet can see it, right?
if you link the two screws by drawing something on the transparent sheets, you will have touched the two screws without ever having gone through the normal paper.

the normal sheet of paper is space
the transparent sheet is the electromagnetic field.
if you wrinkle the transparent sheet by pushing on it with your finger, the in it will move by itself, you don't need to wrinkle the normal sheet.
But the screws can definitely feel the wrinkle traveling.

You could have just said "radiation is transmitted, not heat".

Trying to directly spur people to do low level architectural optimizations on their reasoning and thinking process tends to be fruitless. They will handle it on their own over time, with or without you berating them.
