Why do environmentalists always push for wind turbines and solar cells but conveniently omit geothermal from their usual narrative?

Is it because they want the West to go on a wild goose chase for energy "sources" which have a net negative EROI while developing economies burn all the coal they can and zoom past us in the meantime?

Geothermal is dangerous because it lets all the gravity out of the earth
>>
Liberals don't believe in economics
They are mostly marxists who believe in some sort of magical post-scarcity paradise
>>
>>8023842
Also, energy tubes corrode and melt way down thar!
>>
>>8023895
Where do you even get that much straw?
>>

>Why do environmentalists always push for wind turbines and solar cells but conveniently omit geothermal from their usual narrative?
Because most countries only have a very limited number of sites for geothermal generators. Putting money into developing better geothermal stations won't ever help cover a large proportion of most countries electric needs.

While solar and wind have significantly more challenges than geothermal, the total amount of power available is vastly more than our needs.

>Is it because they want the West to go on a wild goose chase for energy "sources" which have a net negative EROI while developing economies burn all the coal they can and zoom past us in the meantime?
No, that's retarded.

>Because most countries only have a very limited number of sites for geothermal generators.
>drilling technology doesn't improve, ever
>humans have never drilled more than 2 or 3 kilometers beneath the surface
>the hot interior of the earth is literally not beneath our feet everywhere we go

>solar
>the sun is literally shining at full brightness, everywhere on earth, all the time (thus rendering batteries pointless, even though these batteries have incredibly high energy storage densities, are green to manufacture and don't use any toxic ions whatsoever, and are easily scaled to meet the multi-megawatt demands of major cities)

>No, that's retarded.
Then why the exemptions for developing country in every single climate treaty ever written?
>>
>>8023838
>their usual narrative
Because most activists don't actually know why they're advocating for anything. They do it because some other activist made them think there was something to do. Like most problems in life, the market solved it faster than activism ever could.
>>
>>8024043
>drilling technology doesn't improve, ever
I literally just said the opposite of that.

>the hot interior of the earth is literally not beneath our feet everywhere we go
That's still a very long way away from current geothermal technology.

>Then why the exemptions for developing country in every single climate treaty ever written?
Because they didn't make this mess, and they have the least ability to fix it.

>>8024067
>Like most problems in life, the market solved it faster than activism ever could.
What? "The Market" hasn't done shit about carbon dioxide emissions, except where outside forces (such as governments) have forced it to.
>>
>>8024130
The Invisible Hand can't fix CO2 emissions because until now there was not alternative.
>>
>>8024130
>Because they didn't make this mess

But they're going to make it far worse than developed countries ever did.

Third world genocide is the only option to protect the environment.
Also exterminate americuckolds.
>>
>>8024181
There have been alternatives for years. They just cost less now.
Also, "The Market" (ie. energy companies) are still funding propaganda groups to downplay the severity of global warming. That's hardly an example of fixing the problem.

>>8024205
>But they're going to make it far worse than developed countries ever did.
That's unlikely. The cost of renewables is falling fairly fast, and gains in efficiency are going to benefit even those reliant on traditional power sources too. Plus, as those nation's emissions rise they're going to start getting roped into the same kind of agreements we're putting "first world" countries into now.

>Third world genocide is the only option to protect the environment.
How about no.

So here we have someone who is personally invested in wind or solar companies. The central point of his arguments are:

1) Solar and wind are already way more efficient and practical than geothermal (they aren't).

2) Geothermal is not adequately developed to meet much greater demand than it does now (it is).

3) With regards to the environment, developing countries dindu nuffin and never will (they have, and will continue to do so).
