Hello Science.

Is it in any way possible to remove a central nervous system without the host dying? What would one need to even do that?
>>
there's no such thing as a "central nervous system", it's just a leaky abstraction that biologists came up with to roughly characterize some poorly-defined subset of bodily tissues

No we cannot op

>Is it in any way possible to remove a central nervous system without the host dying?
No

>What would one need to even do that?
A Djinn that grants wishes
>>
>>8020872

What about the brain and eyes? Could we ever do it?
>>
>>8020863
As far as I know the central nervous system gives impulses to organs to act. For example, the heart. Removing of central nevous system, for example by means of decaying, would result in death of the host. This is because bodily functions would simply cease. Electrical stimulation of organs could work, but not for extended periods of time.

Are you baiting, or what?
>>
>>8020884

What if there was a gel with everything the brain needs to function it could be suspended in? What would kill the brain in that scenario?
>>
>>8020863
What would one need to even do that?
>sterile environment
>thremally regulated environment
>cerebrospinal fluid
>oxygenated nutrient-rich blood
>a team of robotic surgeons
>extremely specialized surgical environment (something that could stop foreign bodies from entering the CNS)
probably a scaffolding system or support system for your brain in a vat as well

who are you trying to torture?

I just needed to know if someone could ever do it.
>>

It's not about brain being suspended in anysort of gel. If the brain isn't able to send electrical pulses to keep organs going, the subject or host will not survive. The very first thing to happen is for the heart to stop.
>>
>>8020863
No. The rest of the body supports the nervous system, while the (central in particular) nervous system controls all of the body. It's a feedback loop, they are dependent on one another and cannot be separated as they need one another to function.
>>
>>8020940

I mean just keeping the brain alive. The host could be minced up after.
>>
>>8020881
How do you expect a brain to survive without a circulatory system which would supply it with oxygen, nutrients, and other necessary stuff as well as remove substances the organ needs to rid itself of?

An organism is a complex system where all parts are interdependent, you cannot remove crucial organs without causing serious harm or death (let alone separate the nervous system from the rest of the body).
>>
>>8020946

Thanks. Guess it'll never be...
>>
>>8020863

Slowly repace all body parts by artificial ones one by one?
>>
>>8020961

Thought some sort of gel
>>
>>8020940
The heart's rhythm is independent of the nervous system, it certainly wouldn't be the first thing to stop, might even be the last.
>>
>>8020967
If you could supply the brain with blood and keep it suspended then sure
>>
>>8020959
Back in the 1950s soviet union peformed experiments where they basically beheaded bunch of dogs and kept them alive by supplying them with oxygen rich blood, or by attaching the heads to other dogs. They were successful to a degree. As you may expect, the dogs eventually died. With humans this may not be acceptable, but it should be possible to seperate the brain from the body. It's just that by actually seperating the brain from the body, you won't have any means to input or output anything. There's also the detail that braincells begin to die very quickly after being deprived of oxygen.

But yes, if you are immoral enough, you could repeat this experiment at home with rodents. And it is basically the closest practical thing to what you're asking.

Think of it like this:

Any bodypart can be amputatet but stands in some kind connection to the brain and nervous system. When the function of the bodypart is life supporting you need to compensate for it.

Now you can think of ''how to remove each bit.''
