The science behind its success is the fact that exactly half of all people are dumber then the average person.
>>
-simple,memorable beats
-relatable lyrics (to the average mediocre person)

And that's it,actually
>>
>>8013025
basically dumbing it down so everyone can follow it. sometimes no lyrics at all, just "OOO OO OOOOOAAOOOO" and shit like that
>>
Easy to memorize, and the brain likes it when it can easily recall music
>>
>>8013002
Basically the idea is get someone who has a half decent voice to sing against simple but decent beats (usually recycled). From that point on it doesn't even matter what the lyrics are or mean (seen with the beatles after they hit the I am the Walrus stage). From then on all it takes is the lower standard deviations to get into the music. They'll suggest it to their slightly smarter (but still not average IQ smart). They'll listen to it to fit in better and the ball rolls from there.

That's not how averages work, nincompoop. Check the attached image - the average point is marked on at [math]\bar t=\frac{1}{A}[/math]. As you can see, the areas on each side are not equal.

How is this a graph of IQ distribution?
>>
>>8013260
IQ follows a normal distribution roughly, but has right skew and fat tails. This does not mean "exactly" half of people are either side of the average.

The music elitism ITT is hilarious. You fags don't know shit about music theory and psychology.

There are specific tones and melodies that bring about positive response from humans. There are specific rhythms and song structure that are easily discernible and agreeable. Being catchy is a similar idea to memes, but it's easier to reference a specific listening base than it is to reference an anonymous internet, which is why it's easier to create catchy lyrics than to get your meme viral on the Internet. This is also why some pop artists will be big dick swinging for a while and then be forgotten (AKA one hit wonders), they'll just not be able to meme themselves again.

It isn't a testament to intelligence though, that's just something metalfags and betas tell themselves to resolve their insecurities.

certain sounds resonate with the brain. repeating loops can cause you to feel different things at different times in sequence. Combiend with lyrics that can literally control your thoughts. Attach it to a video and it can brainwash you.

music is mind control.
>>
>>8013002
Crowd effect. People like to like things that other people do. It gives them some common thread.
>>
Someone doesn't understand the difference between median and average.
>>
Mainstream pop follows the same structure (verse chorus verse chorus verse bridge chorus) and often use very popular chord progressions and hooks.
People who aren't exposed to much music and only listen to what's on the radio get used to that so when a new pop song comes along they grasp it immediately.

It has more to do with sociology and biology. It's popular because it's popular.

The thing about music, is that it doesn't really matter what kind of music you like. Whether it be hard metal or, pop, or classical, as long as you like it for some reason. Studies show that the music you like listening, releases goodfeel chemicals such as dopamine, regardless of what genre the music is,
>>
>>8013260
It's not. IQ tends to follow a bell curve.
