hopefully some math major can enlighten us as to its non meme applications.
Also I've seen it used a lot to visualize dynamic systems, its a visualization of lots of slices fourier transforms along the complex axis, the rate of attenuation of the exponential function along the real axis... the visualizations will show the complex conjugate roots for sinusoids and stuff like that. Still nothing that doesn't show up in linear algebra though, must have some applications in analysis or something

But Laplace is a keystone in many statistics/probability/variational calculus tho :

> exponential/Campbell formula and Palm formulas
> queues of distributions like the size of GW tree
> great deviations
> resolvants for PDEs / Markov processes / diffusions
> Levy's arcsine law

In fact it's more usefull than Fourier in probability areas.

Well technically, engineers are more interested in Markov Chains. Markov processes in continuous time are more theoretical objets, they're mainly used in the study of diffusions or in theoretical physics.

If you're an engineer I bet you'll hear one day or the other about Markov Chains
