Block websites that make you procrastinate (eg. 4chang) in your hosts file. Uninstall or at least block access privileges of vidya. Do not attempt to study where you live or sleep, instead go to uni or the library. Eat healthy, drink green tea, sleep 7-8 hours a night, masturbate less (once a week is OK).

Leave your parent's house.
If you don't feel like working at Mcdonalds for a salary, go to the army.

I'm doing the last one. I'm also studying programming and I'm going to get a double degree of Computer and Informatics Engineering.

The main problem you have is your lack of progress iniciative. You are not likely to "invest" your time and effort on something that "hurts" you apparently or makes you leave your "safety" zone(your house).

So you will never leave your safety zone if you keep being feed by your parents like a fucking baby. It's very sad knowing that a certain percentage of "us" will not make it.

Read some personal growth books. You chicken?

>Leave your parent's house.

All bad advice.

Why? :(

This.

>study programming
>bad
Unless you want to be a dependent mongoloid, go for it.

>Leave your parent's house.
You keep procrastinating because your habits are fucked up. The unique path to achieve the "self-taught" and progress status, is facing your complexes and fears. That also means you must set your priorities and avoid your safety zone.

There are many ways to reach that goal.

>I don't live with my parents.
What is bothering you, then?
>>
>>7998609

>What is bothering you, then?

Procrastination where I'm wasting most of my life doing nothing, and I might fail university.
>>
>>7998629
>Procrastination
What are you wasting your time on?
>>
>>7998558
Why would reading personal growth books be a bad advice? there are good and bad 'self-help' books. I'm guessing you're either stupid or ignorant.

Good examples are based on scientific research, bad ones are written by 'self-help gurus'.

Good examples
>Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience
>The Willpower Instinct
>Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain

I'm not even sure why I'm on 4chan
>>
>>7998634
>I'm not even sure why I'm on 4chan
Procrastination maybe?
>Good examples are based on scientific research
Yes. They can clear your mind and let you focus on the main problem efficiently.

Too many people think studying programming will automatically give them a job. Fact is, unless you have a very competitive resume already nobody will hire you.

If you're learning programming just for the hell of it it's no better than playing video games.

>>7998634

And how have these books helped you? Why are you still on 4chan?

If you actually looked at the studies they are very specific (e.g conducted in lab settings on psychology undergrads or smokers or whatever) and have tiny effect sizes.

Imagine the "cures" in self-help were drugs in medicine. You'd have something like 50% of people who take the drug who receive no benefit at all, the other 50% might reduce procrastination by 10% at the most.
>>
>>7998651
Are you mentally handicapped by any chance?

I'm from the EU and in almost every city, I was and know of you'll get a job in programming/it on the spot.

That is ofc, if you didn't barely avoid dropping out.

>>7998651
>Too many people think studying programming will automatically give them a job. Fact is, unless you have a very competitive resume already nobody will hire you.
Anon. How do you think people who have a competitive education started?
>If you actually looked at the studies they are very specific (e.g conducted in lab settings on psychology undergrads or smokers or whatever) and have tiny effect sizes.
Their book's claims are based mostly on pseudoscience (psychology), nevertheless the world view they are offering you is very satisfying.
>Imagine the "cures" in self-help were drugs in medicine. You'd have something like 50% of people who take the drug who receive no benefit at all, the other 50% might reduce procrastination by 10% at the most.
You know that procrastination is actually a symptom, right? If the patient does nothing for changing his environment and routine, he will fail miserably and he will repeat the same anxiety cycle until his poor condition makes him try it again months later, maybe years.

>>7998657
He is probably from EEUU. The competence of their programmers is probably higher than ours.
>>
>>7998657

Was that during the dot-com bubble by any chance? Since 2008 employers have been demanding at least 5+ years experience for all requirements (language, framework, full stack etc).

Even for fucking web dev jobs you need 5+ years experience with frameworks like RoR or Django.
>>
>>7998664
>You know that procrastination is actually a symptom, right? If the patient does nothing for changing his environment and routine, he will fail miserably and he will repeat the same anxiety cycle until his poor condition makes him try it again months later, maybe years.

Nuh uh. If you have malaria and a physician prescribes you chloroquinolone or artemisinin and you don't get better do you think the physician would say "HURR YOU JUST NEED TO EXERCISE MORE AND MOVE OUT OF YOUR HOUSE!". Obviously not.

daydreaming, wasting time online watching videos, reading articles etc.

>psy.based.self-help books are supposed to cure this
The propaganda says that. Nobody would actually buy them if the cover actually says "it won't resolve your problems automatically"

They actually are a good influence which makes you feel "motivated" to try it again.

>>7998681
wew
It's good that you don't have an addiction. Maybe doing something you liked as a kid would help you: playing piano/guitar, dance lessons, seduction.

The psy.based.self-help books can offer you a good POV though.
>>
>>7998637
>Procrastination maybe?
Not working dosn't have to be procrastination.

>Yes. They can clear your mind and let you focus on the main problem efficiently.
Exactly. Also, people are very much alike, some things you don't have to philosophise about, you can simply read up on others work and reflect upon it to save great amounts of time.

>>7998651
>And how have these books helped you?
At a point in life I made a change and started prioritizing a intellectual lifestyle and chose to study medicine, these books have definitley worked as tools to achieve my goals.

Why are you still on 4chan?
Bad habit, no one is perfect. But I like coming here to get some food for thought sometimes. I rarely dwell here for more than a couple of minutues but this caught my attention.

>If you actually looked at the studies they are very specific (e.g conducted in lab settings on psychology undergrads or smokers or whatever) and have tiny effect sizes.
I don't take what is written for granted, I question it's content.

>Imagine the "cures" in self-help were drugs in medicine. You'd have something like 50% of people who take the drug who receive no benefit at all, the other 50% might reduce procrastination by 10% at the most.
This is just stupid, this says nothing to me. Are you saying you can it's pointless to change habits for example? and that it can't be done effectively in a scientific way? >>7998664 makes a point here.

>>7998664
>Their book's claims are based mostly on pseudoscience (psychology), nevertheless the world view they are offering you is very satisfying.
So psychology is a pseudoscience? You're very ignorant, friend. Are you implying human behaviour can't be studied?

(English is not my first language)

I have an internet addiction

>Maybe doing something you liked as a kid would help you: playing piano/guitar, dance lessons, seduction.

Haha, whenever I try to do something like that I never have the willpower to do it.
>>
>>7998696
fuck im a bad poster
>>

>Bad habit, no one is perfect.

So, yes, the books are useless.
>>
>>7998696
>So psychology is a pseudoscience? You're very ignorant, friend. Are you implying human behaviour can't be studied?
No. But its information and conclusion can't be treated rigorously. The main critical arguments against psychology are based on that spot.

>Exactly. Also, people are very much alike, some things you don't have to philosophise about, you can simply read up on others work and reflect upon it to save great amounts of time.
Yes. The best books' topics are "success" and "seduction".

>I have an internet addiction
Me too. Good luck with that one. At least I improved myself. Last year I was like a zombie.

>Haha, whenever I try to do something like that I never have the willpower to do it.
Yes. That happens to everyone. Have you set your goals?
Also, do you know we are just giving 2 ideas per post while a book can give you a clear view of your problem?
