What heresy is this?

This is just the distributive property.
First of all, the guy who 'invented' this claims he got it from holy hindu scripture..... kinda weird
the tric is not much more effective than a the conventional method when you do it on paper but might be easier to do if you do mental maths.
but its a need tick anyways so why not explain it.
heres a example which should exaplin this farily well with three digits, with 3 digits there is 5 steps
123 * 456
1 2 3

4 5 6
1 2 3

4 5 6
1 2 3

4 5 6
1 2 3

4 5 6
in each step just multiply the number linked with lines and add the results together to get the digit so :
step 1
3 * 6 = 18
first digit 8
carry 1
current result ______8
Step 2
2 * 6 + 5 * 3 = 27 + 1 = 28 (carry from previous step)
carry 2
secound digit is 8
current result _______88
step 3
1 * 6 + 3 * 4 + 2 * 5 = 28 + 2 = 30
third digit = 0
carry = 3
Current result = ______088
Fourth Step
1*5 + 2*4 = 13 + 3 = 16
fourth digit = 6
carry = 1
current result = ______6088
fifth n final step
1 * 4 = 4+ 1 = 5
last digit = 5
result = 56088
123 * 456 = 56088

So if there's four digits would it equal six steps?
Meaning the example repeats leading to the first two digits being cross multiplied in the 6th(final step) step?

It was one of many techniques and this isn't even close to weird compared to some of the others.
For instance, one of the claims says that the given a quadratic polynomial, the discriminant is equal to the first derivative.
Yeah seems waaaay easier.
