As a scientist, do you feel like you have a moral obligation the correct someone if they are wrong about something scientific or have misconceptions?
>>
sometimes
>>
As a pop-scientist. I feel the obligation to load the masses with misinformation and bullshit as much as I possibly can.

Yes, but only if the bait is juicy.
>>
>>7952335
Not a moral one, but I do get an obligation to calm my triggered autism when someone says something wrong.
>>
>>7952335
That's just my OCD.
>>
>>7952345

>>
But as an epistemologist, do you have a moral obligation to correct when scientist are wrong about something scientific or think they don't have misconceptions when they do?
>>
Absolutely. I cannot resist tge urge to correct people.

As long as I'm not being pedantic/too much of an asshole.

>"My weight is 150 lbs/68 kg."
Saying "Don't you mean mass?" is pedantic, so I wouldn't comment.

>"I was as blind as a bat!"
Might correct them by saying bats aren't blind, but depends on the context.

>"All liquids expand when frozen."
I would correct, since it's wrong in every context.

If it's controversial like:
>"I don't take vaccines/climate change isn't real/stem cell research is evil."
I'm likely not going to change their mind no matter what I say, so I wouldn't comment.
>>
>>7952335
undoubtedly
>>
Depending on the person I'd say something like yeah not exactly but whatever or something you don't want to seem too confrontational
>>
>>7952390
This man knows. I don't have a moral obligation to correct anyone when they are wrong but a feeling of what I can only assume to be Autism flares up inside me and compels me to educate the person who is wrong.
>>
>>7952335
>As a scientist, do you feel like you have a moral obligation the correct someone if they are wrong about something scientific or have misconceptions?
I'd say you have an obligation to spread knowledge, particularly about your own subject.
But there's a large distinction between "spreading knowledge" and "being a pedantic jerk". Focus on the the big picture.
>>
>>7952979
>on the only topics that matter, i wouldn't comment
wew lad
>>
>>7952335
Should you correct someone?
>probably

Is it a successful thing to do?
>no
