yes

Stuxnet.

unpackaging yourself and programming yourself are two different things.

By your logic any bootloader is a self-programming program.

There are a couple ways of doing it.

You've got schema level where the code is based on a logical schema and the code is generated to implement the schema. The schema can of course be modified by a human or computer.

You've also have certain languages that accept any input as valid code and you could simply input random bytes and the program will run. Obviously the code can undergo mutations without breaking.

Probably the best method is to use code generated off a schema that is checked against a fitness algorithm and then modified over several evolutions.

Yeah, this is what I meant. It has to be a program that is capable of re-writing the integral part of its core structure to completely make something else out of itself. So in a sense, evolve.

Genetic programming.

Except stuxnet and bootloaders have a preset "evolution". They are programmed to re-write themselves in a specific and predetermined way.

Usually when people talk about self-programming programs they mean that the program rewrites itself dynamically.

shit son. I've never heard of stuxnet before but its fucking deadly. I didn't find anything about evolution though, I just read that its hijacking high secuity applications by using trusted signatures so the program doesn't show any signs of hijacking.

codds automat

the first programs scientists wrote were self-modifying, due to every Byte of memory being precious at those times (60's around).
We know how to code them since 70 years.
Idk however how flexible they were in terms of "evolution"

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
