I think it makes sense that regular sex releases some kind of drug in your brain, while the shame/fear/whatever else seperately releases another chemical, then you put them together and you're just creating new, more powerful and more addictive drugs. I'm not a chemist, but isn't that how a lot of drugs, like ecstasy, are made?

The problem is that you basically build a tolerance to each drug individually, so you no longer get aroused by just regular sex, nor feel shame/guilt in a regular way.

This. I was the other guy once, banged this girl for more than two years and we never got caught.
