I like salt. I am told salt is bad for me. I am never told why, but just that it is. Given that I assume salt is bad for me because the government said so, can that not be offset by drinking lots of water? Water absorbs salt.

salt makes you too lazy to fucking google "why is salt bad for me".
>>
>>7913097

I don't want to hear it from google, I want to hear it from /sci/. I can goolge "why salt is good for you" and get a million reasons why it is. Doesn't mean its true.
>>
Salt undoubtedly causes damage to your body, but the damage is pretty much negligible unless you ingest a lot at once. We're talking mouthfuls. Any damage caused is completely restored in no time at all. Dehydration can be an issue if you don't keep adequately hydrated regardless of salt ingestion. Otherwise, you're fine.

Listen here anon, never believe anything anyone says on the internet without a shred of skepticism. Always check your facts, and draw unions between multiple sources of information.

You can eat as much salt as you want as long as you drink the necessary amount of water to keep overall concentrations low.
>>
>>7913106

On average, I drink 3 litre (5 gallons) of water per day.

>>7913109

I understand that, hence why I asked here. My countries governemnt website advised to stay away from salt as much as possible, while some sites advised its the concentration within your body vs water that mattered, not the salt itself. I thought I'd ask here because when I can't come to a decision, /sci/ is very good at pooling humanities knowledge together and generating a clear answer.

If you're not being sarcastic, I'm scared for you.

I'm not privy to average daily requirement for water but that's nearly a milk jug of water every day. Sounds like a decent amount.
>>
Every person that ate salt ended up dying.

bad salts give you herpes but tar salts give you stronks

You literally need chloride, sodium and potassium to use water in your body. You may of heard of them referred to as electrolytes.

Eating salt can be bad for you in the way that pouring a cup of sugar on a piece of pie or throwing a stick of butter on top of an egg, or pouring a tub of protein powder on top of your steak.

it's way more than your body needs and will cause undue stress. Just eat naturally. You probably get enough sodium in your diet.
>>
/fit/ would be a better place to ask, but I'll help you out. A lot of DV numbers are outdated and/or not well understood. Basically you can just eat whatever you want as long as you're at least trying to have a balanced diet. So don't eat instant ramen and hot pockets every meal. Sodium can cause high blood pressure for people already at risk, and those people need to be mindful of their intake. Do your thing, but don't forget to go to your check-ups regularly, because that's the only way you'll know if you need to cut back. If you start to have weird urinary problems and dehydration, try cutting back too. But if you're a healthy person, you will be perfectly fine. I go over my DV every day, but my blood pressure is actually too low...

salt isn't bad for you
just like anything else too much is bad for you

when you're active or working you sweat and it's salty. if you're physically or developmentally challenged and don't work up a sweat, then that salt stays in your body.

back when americans were being used as test subjects in radiation experiments, iodine was added to most salt sold in the US, but not so much anymore.

salt is everywhere. made up of sodium and chloride it is essential to maintain these electrolytes in your body. Many athletes take salt tablets for this purpose.

Sodium and potassium function as a pair of nutrients that determine the potential for cell signaling in your body. Potassium is known as an anion when it is broken down because it has more electrons than protons and carries a negative charge. Sodium is known as a cation because it has more protons than electrons and carries a positive charge. When there is ample potassium inside of your cells and sodium outside of your cells, proper cell signaling from your nervous system can take place.

Some people, even professionals, have trouble grasping this concept. If your sodium is high, it likely means your potassium is low. In this low functioning mental state, you will be very susceptible to suggestion.

This is why bars, casinos, and many other places that want your money will put out bowls of FREE salty food such as pretzels, chips, salted peanuts. Flood you with sodium to tip the scales in your brain, and get you started making poor financial decisions, among other things.
