The explanation/intuition bit is where the physics lie by itself; mathematics is just used as a tool; which is used for all of the other sciences. Yeah, I'd have to agree with you. Physics is at its own realm; just as with mathematics is with at its self.

Mathematical Physics concentrate on the mathematical methods that are used in physics. e.g. vectors, topology, geometry, calculus based stats/prob, ..., etc.

Once that bit of mathematics is conceptualized it goes through the "ontology" process which helps create physics. Yes, there were times that using mathematics that alone had made discoveries in Physics. e.g. Some geometric tensors created areas in relativity, ..., etc.

To answer OP's question.

I'd say physics composes of 100% ontology (conception, intuition, and understanding of phenomena's). Physic is just a natural science like chemistry and biology. Hence, physic doesn't fall under mathematics, only by itself, and the natural sciences; which to deciphers/describes nature; which really what it is meant to be.

On a serious note though, studying physics is 50% math, 15% intuiting the universe, 15% redoing overdone experiments to teach method and 10% programming and 10% report writing (in my experience anyway).

certain parts of physics were discovered purely through math.. other parts were discovered experimentally (or from nature) and translated into the language of math after. plenty of math was discovered this way as well.

I'm glad you have a girlfriend anon, but the relationship between math and physics is and has been debatable for a long time. you're not gonna get a concrete result from this thread.
