I have a family member who is actively destroying what remains of his life because of games at the tender age of 25, and so I'm very interested in what can be done about this, short of banning games.

I loved the shit out of Mmorpg's as well. I even played somewhat professional and we on the top. Nowadays, I seem to lost the interest in it.
Even though there are nice games out there.
I mean, just imagine how awesome you would be in some new skill/s if you would have put the time in those instead of games.

I wanted to experience life. How would people remember me. That depressed edgy teen who ended up killing himself? I wanted my life to have meaning beyond winning league of legends games. I wanted to impact the world in a positive way, so that I would leave the world in a better way than I found it. Idealistic and naive I know, but it gave me at least some thing to work towards. I've always been fascinated with science, so I worked towards getting better grades which helped boost confidence in myself . Also I went to see a social worker for regular sessions, and I guess just talking about it and venting my anxieties helped a ton.
