Gender roles and behaviors are almost entirely emulated from others, when girls act feminine it is because they are emulating what they think female behavior is. Children before puberty have similar hormones levels, as in virtually no sex hormones (testosterone, estrogen).

Actually you're completely wrong. The Oxford English Dictionary published sex and gender as distinct concepts as early as 1963. Just because something was believed in the past doesn't make it factually correct now, an important aspect of science is that it adapts to new knowledge and understanding of a concept.

If sex and gender are indistinct, that would make intersex women with xy chromosomes, born with female reproductive organs, men instead of women. Making a distinction between sex and gender allows for more accurate classification of humans.
