How can I make relatively pure (>70%) nitric acid?

Yeah.

this is actually very easy. you'll need an automotive battery (contains sulphuric acid), about two pounds of bitter almonds(preferably finely ground although coarse will work too), a cooking-pot and a stove. now just put the ground almonds in a cooking-pot, add about 350 ml of sulphuric acid and 150 ml of water(always add the acid first, then the water), and apply medium heat. stir vigorously for 5 minutes, remove the pot from the stove and let it cool. finally filter the mixture through a cheesecloth and you'll have concentrated nitric acid. hope this helps.

this sounds like it will release cyanide or some related compound
OP: you can use electrolysis of air. this sperg shows you how it works.

i assure you this procedure is safe and sound. the materials used are easily procured. i recommend this especially to younger kids with an interest of chemistry as a primer to the wonderful world of anorganic synthesis.

Distilled bitter almond oil (cyanogenic glycosides removed) actually serves as effective tech grade benzaldehyde for nitroaldol condensations. I guess nitroalkanes could be produced by organolithiums and nitrate, but this is too hard for OP to believe.
Water to acid is god-tier though

This sounds like another "how to grow pretty ammonia crystals" to be quite honest, family.

>bitter almonds
too obvious try again. that said, i've never had a bitter almond so i don't know what it tastes like.
